The Loonan Brothers

Patrick and Michael Loonan

Patrick and Michael Loonan’s rich brotherly harmonies, versatile musicianship and original songwriting have captured the attention of fans and musicians throughout the Twin Cities area.

Patrick Loonan has been writing songs for over 20 years — his songs tell stories of travels and a variety of life experiences. His compositions on the Loonan Brothers CD "The Day Has Come" are described as a love letter to God and to the people of Nativity of Our Lord Church in St. Paul, where they   have served as musicians for the church’s contemporary 9:30 Mass on Sundays.

Michael Loonan is well respected as a multi-faceted singer/songwriter/musician/arranger producer with two critically acclaimed solo recordings "Graduation" and "Share the Disguise." Michael is also guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist with the popular 60‘s – 80‘s dance band 2nd Generation. Talk radio listeners also know Michael as the leader of KSTP-AM 1500’s Mischke Broadcast "Loony Bin Band".

The Day Has Come -- the warm, comforting spiritual album of original songs written by Patrick Loonan, earning acclaim from listeners and the Catholic community.

News:

Therese Loonan, mother of Patrick and Michael, passed away peacefully yet unexpectedly on February 18, 2002.  She was a major fan of the music that her sons wrote and played, and was very proud.  Therese lived life to the fullest and always spoke up about what she believed in.  She is dearly missed and will no doubt serve as an inspiration for their future recordings.

Michael is still playing piano with the 9:30 Mass band at Nativity of Our Lord in St. Paul.  The line-up has evolved over the years, and now consists of: Michael (piano, guitar and vocals), Amy Kuebelbeck, guitarist and vocalist, and a rotation of singer/cantors, John Theis, and Damien Riehl.  Brigid McCarthy plays violin when she is in town from her Boston Music Conservatory.  The group also features David Methner, an accomplished saxophone and clarinet player.  Amy has been doing a wonderful job of planning the music and introducing some new song selections.  The congregation has responded well.
