January 17, 2003 -- Health Access on state health cutbacks

HEALTH ACCESS STATE BUDGET CUTS UPDATE, January 15, 2003

Health Access has put together another update on the effects of Davis's
proposed health cuts, largely to Medi-Cal: fewer eligible, less recruitment
and higher dropout of those who are eligible, fewer services covered, less
money to safety-net hospitals for those with no coverage at all, and cuts in
aid to seniors and the disabled.

Under the Governor's budget proposal to fix a budget shortfall of over $34
billion, millions of seniors, people with disabilities, and working families
will be denied access to needed health care services they need. Well over a
half-million
Californians in working families will be directed denied basic
Medi-Cal health coverage in just the first year.
