HEALTH
ACCESS STATE BUDGET CUTS UPDATE, January 15, 2003
Health Access has put together another update on the effects of Davis's
proposed health cuts, largely to Medi-Cal: fewer eligible, less recruitment
and higher dropout of those who are eligible, fewer services covered, less
money to safety-net hospitals for those with no coverage at all, and cuts in
aid to seniors and the disabled.
Under the Governor's budget
proposal to fix a budget shortfall of over $34
billion, millions of seniors, people with disabilities, and working families
will be denied access to needed health care services they need. Well over a
half-million Californians in working families will be directed denied
basic
Medi-Cal health coverage in just the first year.
