York Hi Reunion - 2004

Our 50th. high school reunion was a grand time. Though Elmhurst has changed, and the class members may be a bit grayer, the special spirit lives on.

As members of the organizing committee, who have done exceptional jobs over the years, leave the Elmhurst area, we have reached the time when this may be the last "full class" reunion. Discussions are starting concerning other alternatives - and we hope that some of us can get together again before "Those Saints Come Marching In" for real.
From our 11th. floor room in Oak Brook we had a view that extended all the way to Chicato, some 15 ~ 20 miles to the east.

On Saturday we stopped by the church where we were married 46 years ago. Many wonderful memories.
The Superintendent of schools gave us a tour of the recently completed, 93 million dollar renovation and construction of York high school. WHAT A FACILITY!

This covered atrium in the old retains two walls from previous "editions" of York Hi. As you can see from one of these "originals", the new exterior remains faithful to the original design theme of the school.
The other original wall. Can you pick out Angus in this bunch of classmates?

Stairs in the academic wing proved to be no match for the class of '54.
Inlaid tile pattern at the base of the stairwell points to magnetic rather than true north. Exactly why I don't remember.

The school provides education in hotel and restaurant management. Part of their efforts include a coffee and cappuccino bar where students and teachers can purchase an early-morning "pick me up" Wally and John both thought it was a grand idea, about 50 years late!
The fitness center took your breath away! Never have I seen a facility to equal it. The weight machines were all "first class", and lots of them.

Cindy pumps a little iron, just to say she did it.
Our table, at the final dinner. Through the magic of PhotoShop we can all be in the same picture, without even getting out of our chairs.

The singers gather to start off the evening entertainment. Using great skill, Larry manages to completely hide somebody, I think Al.
Al (and Ron) are now visible in the singing group as we all raise our voices.

Five of the 8-Notes (Dennis is hidden behind Ed and Bill) provide the musical accompaniment. The best comment I heard was Toni gasping "THIS IS IN FOUR FLATS!".
They were so good, I HAD to include this shot.

Imagine, a reunion committee member, plays in the band AND easy on the eyes!
I must apologize for my little flash not being strong enough to properly light a group this large. Thus, the picture is not up to the quality of the others (whatever that may be). Rather than even TRY to list the names, let me just say this is "A-through-L"

I'm sorry to say that I managed to cut off several people on the right edge, including Donna VanEwyk McFarland so I hope everybody in the "M through Z" group purchased a commercial copy. Mea Culpa.
