Built about 1660, the Governor Bellingham/Cary House on Parker Street is Chelsea's oldest residence. It was the summer home of Governor Bellingham in the 1660s and was the home of the Cary family from the late 1700s through the early 1900s. The house was enlarged in the 18th century.

George Washington stationed some of his troops here for the siege of Boston during the Revolutionary war. At one time, the farm-holdings of the Cary family stretched into what is now Revere. Today the house is operated as a museum by the Chelsea Historical Society.
