Dear Family, Friends & Associates:

Over a year ago, my brother Mike was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that usually attacks both upper and lower neurons and causes degeneration throughout the brain and spinal cord.  The only known cause of ALS is a mutation of a specific gene.  Based on U.S. population studies, a little over 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. (That’s 15 new cases a day!).  It is estimated that as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time.  Most commonly, the disease strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70.  Mike is 49. 

In honor of Mike and his family, Friends of Mike Anderson are planning a fundraising night, a silent-auction will be held on June 15th at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, MA. Our intent is to help Mike and his family offset the significant costs of medical care and equipment.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.
