Tower at W3PHL

The tower is Military Surplus aluminum, with a stairway/platform configuration. Trap door at top, with railing all around. Each section is 6 ft high, 6 ft. long, 3 ft. wide, and folds flat for storage. The sections 'plug in' to each other. The base is in 7 1/2 cubic yards of concrete (I helped dig the hole!) The first section was placed on top of a re-bar superstructure specially made, then the concrete was added. The property is on Valley Forge Mountain. Highest elevation within 40 miles.

• Installing the Kirk 40 meter quad. Only lasted one season, and the wind de-tuned it while operating! That's me holding the bottom spreader. Antenna was assembled on the tower.
• Had to go to a full size 3 element Telrex yagi. 1971. Ground view. Much more rugged! Lasted about 9 yrs.
• View from above. Antenna is actually at 135 ft. Looking Pacific here...
• Below is my favorite shot of the Telrex. You can see the rotator (homemade chain-driven) and the gin pole made from an old TV tower with special brackets designed to plug-in to the side of the tower.
