The second generation of badge design of the Metropolitan Police. This style was likely in use from 1919 on, with individual badge numbers. Eventually, the Metropolitan Police would stop identifying officers by badge numbers and switch to hat numbers instead. (Photo source: Collection of John Goldin. Used with permission.)

The third style of badge utilized a different design than the previous ones. The shape and style of the badge was now distinctive to the Metropolitan Police. The above example of badge was issued to Mets at their retirement. Retirement badges continued to be issued until 1991. (Photo source: Internet.)
