Patrolman William Mateer, Blue Hills District - January 10, 1909
Patrolman Mateer drowned while attempting to save a fisherman who had fallen through the ice on a pond in the Blue Hills. The fisherman also drowned. After Patrol Mateer's death, the Legislature and the Commission enacted death benefits for the Metropolitan Police.

Patrolman Irving B. Harding - October 11, 1918
Patrolman Harding was killed in a motorcycle accident.
Patrolman Fred C. Mercer, Lower Basin District - September 1921
Patrolman Mercer died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident on Memorial Drive in Cambridge. According to the MDC and the newspaper accounts, Patrolman Mercer was pursuing a speeding car when his motorcycle was struck by a truck turning onto Memorial Drive. He had served for 11 years with the Metropolitan Police, one year at Revere Beach and ten years at the Lower Basin Station in Boston.
Patrolman Thomas J. Sullivan - October 5, 1929
Patrolman Sullivan was killed in an automobile accident.

Patrolman Paul Michael Kennefick, Blue Hills District - July 14, 1982
Patrolman Kennefick was killed in a automobile accident. At the time of his death, he was in traning for the MDC Police Mounted Unit.

Patrolman Robert P. Dana, Blue Hills District - March 25, 1984
Patrolman Dana was shot and killed during a traffic stop in the town of Milton. He served with the Metropolitan Police for four years. The Robert P. Dana Distinguished Service Award is awarded to Police Officers in Massachusetts each year for distinguished service.
Captain Richard "Rick" Cashin, MSP Troop A HQ Danvers - Jan 28, 2009
Captain Richard, "Rick" Cashin was killed in motor vehicle crash on January 28, 2009 on US Route 1 in the town of Saugus, MA. Captain Cashin began his Massachusetts law enforcement career with the Metropolitan Police in 1980. He was promoted to Sgt. in 1984 and then Lt. in 1989. During his years of service with the Metro Police, Cashin was assigned to the Revere Beach District and the Lower Basin District in Boston. In 2002, Cashin was promoted to Captain and at the time of his death, was assigned to Troop A Headquarters in Danvers.
