Some reflections
from Margaret: My sojourn
began at Mrs. Ege’s lovely
condo in Mahwah, NJ. Elisabeth, and
husband David were there and it was
a cozy afternoon with a fire blazing
in the living room. We talked, drank
tea and wine, had naps and some went
shopping. Thank you, Else for such
a nice platter of appetizers – your
presentations are inspiring. Shrimp,
smoked salmon, hearty breads decorated
with lettuce and black olives. Veddy
nice.
By 5:28 pm we dashed to
Rte. 17 to the Doubletree and several “class
of ’69'” Glen School folks
met. Mr. Montick (sorry Bill, I have
a hard time being a grown-up), Diana
Wagner Casey were already there. Scott
and Karen Yates arrived and then Sue
Crowe Wilson. We chit-chatted, had some
appetizers, some drinks, and laughed
loads. Mr. Montick (aka Billy Blast-off)
is retiring after 38 years of teaching!!!
Whoa! Does that add up? Well, he took
a year or two off to serve in Vietnam.
Do you remember that he left early from
that 6th grade year? He said he left
June 9 th. What are you doing June 9
th, 2006 Glen School folks? Should the
first of Mr. Montick’s classes
crash the last?
Then, we moved to the function
room where the “Class of ‘75’” reunion
was in full swing. The DJ thought that
we were into disco, but we continued
to point out the errors in his ways.
Our very own Speedo and the Del-Rays
band played – members included
Jay McDonald, Ed Alstrom, Emilio Fandino – who
else? It was so much fun meeting up with
those guys and Connie White, Arlene Becker,
Betsey Ross, Beverly Hood, Jeff Fischer,
Tom Van Note, Frank Lindemann, and many
more.
On Saturday morning we
had our usual hearty breakfast at The
Fireplace. And, it wasn’t just
Glen School people either. There were
about 15 in all. The big surprise was
Tom Chicino – he had been lost
but now found! And, he’s retired.
You know you’re getting old when
everyone starts talking retirement plans.
