2: The introductory remarks of a speaker or author
It all started around the fall of 1989, I had a learner's permit to drive and because at that point I had been working for 2 years,
I had a pocketful of ca$h. So I looked through magazines, went to car dealerships and decided I wanted a Blue Camaro Iroc-Z. But, after looking around
I ran into a Black on Black 1983 Pontiac Trans-Am. I instantly fell in love with the car. I can still remember the
odemeter read 62,xxxx the day I brought it home. It was a beautiful car, it had every available option for a Trans Am that year except the Recaro seat
option. It had Power seats, Locks, Windows, Mirrors, Antenna and trunk release. It also had a rear window wiper, the optional Cross-Fire fuel injected
305 engine, functional hood scoop, rear defrost and other amenities. It was November so I only drove the car for a week before storing it away in my
Uncle's garage for the winter, which is where the picture was taken.
Anyway I owned that Trans Am until late 96 ( and 92,xxx miles ), when while it was being stored while me and a friend were going to build up a 400 engine,
Some jerk decided my cars fender, door and hood needed to be altered by his truck, well with no engine and the paint showing it's age anyway, the insurance
company totalled it. I bought it back and was going to rebuild it, but ran into problems with storage ( and money LOL ) so i sold it to a friend who
parted it out, at least some of the parts from that car I still see on a regular basis as my friend has a 1984 Trans Am, and used a few of my old T/A's
parts, and eventually a few of my old parts ended up on my current ride.
Fast foward to spring of 1998, I decided I had gone long enough without a Firebird ( I was hooked on 82-92 3rd Generation Firebirds after my T/A ), and
after some reasearch decided that I wanted a car with Tuned Port Fuel Injection and of course T-Tops. So armed with my citeria which was, Good overall body
and chassis ( meaning no rust ), T-Tops, Tuned Port Injection and any color but RED, me and my friend Mike spent weeks looking for and at cars. Sounds
simple enough right? Wrong. we looked all over combing the paper, the tradin' times and searching car lots. Then one day my father calls me and asks if I
had found a car yet, I said "no", he said I should come down to his work and take a look at the wholesale dealer 2 doors down from the Auto Parts store he
worked at as they had a Firebird I may be interested in. So I go down there right away with my buddy, and we look at the car, it's red DOH! but it did have
T-Tops, Tuned Port Injection and was in very good condition.
The car turned out to be a 1990 Firebird Formula, with an aftermarket Ground Effects kit and 94,472 miles on the odometer. Other
than 2 bald tires on the front, the car drove excellent, sounded great and had a LOT of power. The Formula also had a set of headers on it, which is funny
because I had sold a project car Ford EXP the week before and saved the ca$h to buy a set of headers for the new car I planned on buying. So since it had
T-Tops, Tuned Port Injection and Headers, I settled for the RED Formula and haven't regretted it since ( well I still want to paint it a different color LOL )
and all it really needed was two new tires, a spare tire cover, spare tire and jack and all 4 center caps. All of which I got within a week of owning the
car.
