Suspension - MNformula350's Virtual Garage
I am an avid Autocrosser. For those not familiar with Autocrossing, It is where you run a course laid out with cones, against a time clock.
There are sveral classes including a stock class, Where you can run a regular stock car.
So for the Autocross track, I have modified my suspension with some tubular rear lower control arms and panhard bar, subframe connectors and the sturt
tower brace under the hood. I also installed a "wonder bar" off of an Iroc-Z ( this was a factory piece available only on the 85-90 Camaro Iroc-Z ) which
is a steering box brace that ties the front subframe together. Since my car came form the factory with Pontiac's WS6 suspension, I have the large hollow
36mm front sway bar and a 24mm rear bar. Another thing I bought but have yet to install are a set of Eibach Sportline lowqering spring, they should drop
the car and inch and a half, to give the car a lower center of gravity and help the car handle better. Plus it will help those 17's fill up the wheel
wells and will get installed when I install the new rear axle assemlby. I also got an Aluminum driveshaft and drums.

When my car left the factory it was equipped ( or plauged as I say ) with a one tire fryer and 2:73 gears. Nice for a daily driver, not so great for
performance. Especially with all the torque the Tuned Port Injection makes. I solved this problem by buying an Eaton posi carrier and a 3:73 gear set.
They still have to be installed in the car, then I will need to change the speedometer gears so the speedo reads correct. I am going to have a transmission
shop take care of that, because I already broke one of the trans mount bolts. I figure if I take it to a shop, they can break the others, than they'll have
drill them out and put in new ones, and I won't have to deal with it.
When I bought my 93 Camaro it came with these Elite 17x9.5 wheels. the rubber across the wheel measures ten and a half
inches. Great for autocrossing, so when i sold the Camaro I kept the wheels and tires. I guess they look good too, everyone compliments them, I personally
would rather have a set of Ronal Firehawk wheels, but these were basically free.
My Autocross helmet, it's just basically a D.O.T. approved helmet with Formula decals.
Future Plans: I need to install my lowering springs, and rear axle with the 3:73's. I also plan on swapping the front brakes to the larger factory
1LE style. Some people have asked why I don't get Brembo's or such, well if I get the factory available big brake option, I can get the parts at any parts
store locally and not have to order and wait for and aftermarket replacement part. And all the stuff aside from the spindles ( pads, rotors, calipers,
bearings and seals ) can be had for around $300.00.
