The Hall of Fame Committee
Rules
Return to the Hall of Fame page
The Hall of Fame Committee consists of three current MSHA members, at least
one but not more than two of whom are on the current MSHA Board of Directors.
They are selected for a three year term. One member will be elected annually
by the MSHA Board of Directors at their June meeting. There is no limit to
the number of terms that can be served.
The following are the basic requirements for induction into the Minnesota
Handball Hall of Fame:
-
Any current MSHA member may nominate a player or contributor to the Minnesota
Handball Hall of Fame.
-
The candidate must:
-
Be retired from serious open competition in Minnesota for at least five years and be over 40 years of age.
-
Be outstanding (above his or her peers) in a specified handball related capacity.
-
Have won at least one top division Minnesota State tournament. (Winning a
B, C, Consolation, or Junior's tournament does not meet this requirement.)
(A contributor candidate does not have to meet this requirement.)
-
The nominator must provide the Hall of Fame Committee with the supporting
documentation at least 30 days prior to the first MSHA Board meeting in the
calendar year in order for the candidate to be considered in that year. (Note:
The first board meeting may be as early as the first week in January, depending
on the tournament schedule. Submittal by December 1 will insure adequate
time.)
-
Documentation of a player must include the following:
-
Tournament record in Minnesota State singles or doubles.
-
Participation in the Juniors, Intercollegiates, Pro-Stops, MSHA, USHA, Canadian,
Irish, World or other 4-wall competition. Indicate year, site, and Final
Four (semifinalists.)
-
MSHA Top 10 achievements.
-
(The player must have won at least one MSHA State Championship.)
-
Other contributions or achievements in handball in Minnesota or elsewhere.
-
Documentation for a contributor is not specifically defined and will simply
be left up to the nominator. However, to be inducted into the Minnesota Handball
Hall of Fame as a contributor only, the candidate must have given outstanding
unselfish service to the game of handball in Minnesota.
-
Personalities should not be considered in evaluating a candidate.
-
When a nomination has been submitted to the Hall of Fame Committee it will
be considered a first reading. Approval of the first reading will be by a
simple majority of the committee. Approval of the first reading is required
for a second reading. (Note: This approval shall determine that at a minimum,
the appropriate documentation has been submitted for the committee to evaluate
the nominee at the second reading.)
-
A second reading will take place at the next Hall of Fame Committee meeting
following the first reading. A recommendation to the MSHA Board of directors
must be approved by two thirds of the committee. (Note: This approval is
a recommendation of the candidate based on the committee's evaluation of
the merit of the nominee for the Hall of Fame.)
-
The committee's recommendation will be considered for approval at the first
scheduled MSHA Board of Directors meeting in the calendar year. A simple
majority of the board is required for approval. (Note: This means that the
Hall of Fame Committee must meet at least twice prior to the first MSHA Board
meeting of the calendar year for a candidate to be inducted at the annual
meeting or banquet.)
-
The induction ceremony will take place at either the annual meeting or the
annual banquet immediately following the Board's approval of the candidate.
-
Each inductee will receive an individual plaque commemorating the event.
Each inductee's name will be added to a common plaque listing all of the
Minnesota Handball Hall of Fame members.
