Greetings Handball Players,
The 1999-2000 handball season is in full swing. Three of the five tournaments for "The Nationals Deal" are over. (You need to play in all five to qualify for MSHA deal.) The MSHA State Tournaments are the two remaining tournaments. Enclosed with this newsletter are the entry forms. This years events are combined into two tournaments, one for doubles and one for singles. All of your favorite divisions are still included, but you will have to choose only one for each tournament. The good news is youll get another tournament with the upcoming Nationals!
Once again, the MSHA board members will be calling you to encourage your participation. We will remind you of the first state tournament entry deadline. We are hoping to increase tournament participation and get players in "tournament shape" for the Nationals.
Your MSHA Board has been busy finalizing plans for the two state tournaments and the USHA Nationals. Here is a summary on some of the issues the board is working on:
1. 2000 MSHA State Tournaments
a) We will have both singles and doubles at the U of M this year. Expect the usual well-run events with a possible surprise guest.
2. 2000 MSHA Hall of Fame Awards Banquet
a) We will return to fellow handball player Steve Bremer's Wabasha Street Caves to honor three great inductees! Make sure to reserve your spot when you complete your tournament entry form.
3. 2000 USHA Nationals
a) Budget Committee - has set the budget based on sponsors and advertisers and is making sure all the committees stay on track.
b) Sponsorship Committee - we still have advertising space available in the program. You can also become a sponsor by donating products or services. We can use door prize donations for the Sunday Night Dinner.
c) Program Committee - looking for advertisers and some articles to include. Anyone with an interesting perspective or story on the 50th anniversary of the USHA Nationals?
d) Hospitality Committee - planning breakfasts, lunches, and Sunday night dinner.
e) Volunteers Committee - looking for volunteers for a variety of positions. If you have not already signed up, contact Matt Hiber at (612) 626-7836.
Please contact a MSHA board member if you would like to help out as an advertiser, sponsor, or volunteer.
See you on the courts!
