Twin Cities Handball League Finals
DAC Takes Monday
Trouble Boys Win Tuesday
The Twin Cities Handball League finished its season at the University
of Minnesota Recreation Center with beer and pizza for everyone
as well as playing good handball. The finals for both the Monday
Night League and the Tuesday Night League were preceded by third
place matches for both leagues and a consolation match for the
Tuesday league. Both championships were decided in the doubles
matches by tie breakers.
In a repeat match-up of last year's championship in the Tuesday
Night League, the Trouble Boys defeated last year's champion,
the Minneapolis Athletic Club. Steve Johnson and Tim Labey of
the Trouble Boys lost their first game to Gary Rohrer and Matt
Hiber. But coming back in the second game with strong serves
from Labey, Johnson and Labey turned the score around and then
handily put the match away in the third game.
The match-up in the #1 Singles found Pete Crouser of the MAC defeating
Leif Wallin, but in the #2 & #3 Singles the Trouble Boys were
victorious. In the #2 Singles, Don Reiter defeated Bob Smith,
and in the #3 Singles, Tom Walek defeated Dan Levey.
Third place: Decathlon Athletic Club (DAC) defeated Skyway YMCA
(SKY) 33-0
Consolation: Northwest Clubs (NW) defeated St. Anthony Athletic
Club (SAAC) 19-14
In the Monday Night League, the Decathlon Athletic Club defeated
the Northwest Clubs. In the doubles first game, Tim Leahy and
Collin Versich of Northwest defeated Al Allstadt and Steve Friedmann
in a closely fought game. But Allstadt and Friedmann reversed
the match by easily winning the second and third games.
The singles' matches were split between the clubs. In the #1
Singles, Mike Auran of the Decathlon defeated John Laemmle. In
the #2 Singles, Harlan Paetznick of Northwest defeated Larry Christenson.
Third place: Skyway River Rats (RR) defeated Skyway Y's Guys (YG)
