Skyway YMCA Wins Monday League

The 1996 Twin Cities Handball League Championship Playoffs completed the 1995-96 TC league season for the nine Tuesday night teams and the six Monday night teams.

In its first full season, the Monday league played a double round-robin, home and away series to determine the four qualifying teams for the playoffs. The Skyway YMCA took first place honors winning the two singles events and dropping a close doubles match to the Northwest Clubs. Third place went to Kings Court in a close 8-7 win over the Midway YMCA.

Perennial top finishers: The Decathlon AC and the Trouble Boys battled for first place in the Tuesday night league. The Trouble Boys won a convincing doubles match but even a fire alarm that emptied the entire complex couldn't cool the Decathlon's hot singles players. Then DAC swept the three singles matches for a championship win 21-12. Third place honors went to the Minneapolis AC with a 26-7 win over the Northwest Clubs. In the Consolation, Kings Court squeaked out a win over St. Anthony AC 17-16.
