Despite the way-below-zero weather, seven of the eight teams that registered showed up and played.
In a format designed by (and understood only by) Jack Hickman, each team played just about every other team. Don and Tony Krocak defeated Jerry and Mike Totall in the finals. The semifinalists were Bob and Keith Schaumann and Leroy Sibel and daughter Dana Anderson. Dick and Ryan Maloney edged Dick and Pete Crouser in the consolation final.
The only rookie, Tom Hickman, played valiantly in his first real competition, and now would appear to be hooked on the game. He played well, but not quite well enough to carry the old man.
After a full morning of spirited play, everyone adjourned to the nearby [and now defunct] court bar for lunch where, inevitably, the youngsters were made to suffer through the Old Guys' endless tales of past glories. (It should be noted that a few of the stories were probably at least partially true.)
The third annual looks like a sure thing, so watch for it and sign up. What could be better than you and your kid and "The Perfect Game?"
