PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Greetings MOAA members,
Happy New Year! And on to the new and exciting 2008.
The Board of Directors is required to review the By-Laws and the Policies and Procedures Manual during the first quarter of each year. I am scheduling a meeting of the board for this purpose at 11:00 am just prior to the membership meeting on February 19th. I am asking the board members to review the documents in advance. Copies will be available at the January membership meeting. The agenda will also include “Any other business” so board members may bring up items of concern to the board at that time. If the business is not completed before the time to start the regular membership meeting, we will recess the board and reconvene after the regular meeting. Members who have recommendations and concerns should bring them to the attention of a board member prior to the board meeting.
As I look over this past year, I am reminded of the many members who have assisted with many tasks throughout the year. It is always risky to single out individuals to be thanked, but I will take that risk, since I do want to express appreciation to some special members that have assisted the chapter this past year. If I have missed anyone, please accept my apologies as it is not intentional. First, my appreciation goes to the Board of Directors for their support, assistance and encouragement this past year. A special thank you to Paul Nienabor, Venice Area Chapter MOAA Web Site; Norm MacLellan, JROTC Liason; Suzanne White, Social Chair through this past May and assisting with printing and mailing the Sharkstooth, and many other tasks; Jeanne White, Membership and Newsletter; Gene White, Raffle; Warren Sharp, Food Drive and Toys for Tots; Floyd Frank, Nametags; Bob Latham, Treasurer; Ellen MacLellan and Marian Hennig, Socials and procuring and mailing items for the 543rd MP Co; Win Orbven, Scholarship Chair; Gerald McIllmoyle, Audit; Patty McIllmoyle, Sunshine; Mike Healey, Secretary and Guenter Hennig, Treasurer. A special thanks to all members who have contributed to the Scholarship Fund during our end of the year appeal and during the year at the raffles at our socials. Last but not least to all of the members that have supported MOAA and participated in the events this year. Thank you all.
Sincerely, Alf

I want to say “Thank You” to all of those MOAA members who participated in the food drive for the All Faiths Food Pantry and the Toys For Tots effort. Both agencies had ample items for the Christmas Season.
Another “Thank You” goes to those who made our gift mailings to the 543rd Military Police Company in Baghdad a successful effort. The 543rd is scheduled to return stateside n February 2008.
Seasons Greetings and best wishes to all,
Warren Sharp, 2nd Vice President
I just wanted to let you all know that our two Cardiac Surgery Patients are doing well at this time. Guenter Hennig is well on the road to recovery and we hope to see him at the meetings soon.
Also, Bob Latham, who has had a pretty difficult time since his Surgery. He recuperated from the Surgery, but the complications have really given him a rough time. He is doing much better now, and we hope to see him at our next meeting. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

LETTER FROM SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
As you know, Warren Sharp is our main contact for the scholarship recipients, and he received the following e-mail.
Col Sharp,
After many discussions with the Lieutenants at the unit, I decided I should stick with Surface Warfare. Although flying sounds like a great time, my main goal has always been to go to law school. Unfortunately, the aviation path doesn’t allow a flexible schedule to achieve my goal. So, I’m going to go for the Surface Warfare hopefully out of San Diego. I am interested in applying for the JAG Corps and Intel as a back up lateral transfer. I’ll let you know how everything works out!
Best, Jen Blake

It is that time of the year again, and I am of course asking all of you to renew your member ships for 2008. Yearly dues are $25 for Officer and Current Spouse. $12.50 for Single Officer and Associate members.

My apologies to those of you who receive this newsletter by e-mail. Have been unable to send for the past two days as there was a glitch in my system. My ISP provider kept dropping the attachment out of the system. Finally I removed the picture of the Inaguration Ceremony and guess what, now everything works. I think that I will be changing providers soon. More of this saga as things develop.
