PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Greetings MOAA members,
As we enter the month of May, we know that this will be the last meeting month before our summer break. We hope to see you all at our picnic at the North Jetty (Nokomis Beach) on Saturday, May 5 and at the regular MOAA Chapter meeting on Tuesday, May 15 at the American Legion on East Venice Avenue. At that meeting a vote will be taken to approve a change in the by-laws to allow associates to hold office in the organization.
May will be a busy month with MOAA medals being awarded to one male and one female JROTC cadet at Venice and North Port High Schools and the awarding of our $2000.00 Scholarship. We will also take part in the Memorial Day observance.
Our regular schedule will resume in September. Watch for your next newsletter in late August. Have a great and safe summer!
The Nominating Committee for this coming year has been appointed. Members are Ellen MacLellan, Suzanne White and Guenter Hennig. If asked to serve in an elected position, please consider accepting. We are also looking for one or more volunteers to take over the duties of Social Chairman. If you are willing to serve, please let me know.
Sincerely, Alf

This message was forwarded to me by Bill Henry, whose son is serving with this Company in Iraq. I am only printing excerpts that are pertinent. It was sent by CPT Adam C Stocking who will be transferred soon.
I want to thank you for all of the support you and your organization have provided my men. It was truly appreciated, particularly considering that the business that the Army assigned us as a sponsor has not sent one single solitary note or package. On a personal note, I really appreciate the occasional messages, this was without a doubt, the toughest job I’ve had in my 15 years, and your notes and encouragement meant a lot. Unfortunately, in true Army fashion, as soon as you get good at your job, they pull you out! After almost two years, I am being relieved. My replacement is here in Iraq and we will be changing command soon. Thanks Chief for all you and yours have done for the War Dragon Family.
Signed CPT Stocking
Thanks Bill for letting us know that our efforts are welcomed and that we are able to do something for our boys who are so far from home.

Also bring a dish to share with others. Please call Suzanne as she is the co-ordinater for who will bring what, just so we don’t have an over abundance of one thing, that is desserts, though I wouldn’t mind if there was too much dessert myself. DIRECTIONS TO PICNIC
Our Picnic on May 5th will be held at Nokomis Beach, also known as the North Jetty. Here is how to get there. Northbound on Hwy 41 in Venice, go to Albee Rd and turn left (west). Be careful: Hwy 41 is under construction and the Albee Rd signs have been removed. As you approach the traffic light at the intersection, look to your right front for the Matthews Currie Ford dealer and turn left at the rd just before the car dealer. Once westbound on Albee Rd , cross The intracoastal waterway to Casey Key Rd, turn left (south) at the intersection, and go about 3/4 of a mile south. Look to the right for the first picnic pavilion that you see and drive into the sandshell parking lot.
NOTE: Per county ordinance, no glass containers are allowed in the pavilion. Those bringing drinks, please use metal cans or plastic bottles. If bringing any food items contained in glass (such as relish), please transfer to a plastic container. I hope to see many of you at the picnic, and would love to have all of our new members join us.
