Bio: Lieutenant Ja'annz was born in 2336 on Ottoia III to a family of four - two brothers and two sisters.  She was always a very nice, sociable person, and had very high grades in the Ottoian Service Academy.  On her eighteenth birthday, she applied to Starfleet as soon as she was able, and was admitted that year.  After arriving, she often was confused for a Vulcan with her pointed ears, so she often wore her hair over her ears to disguise this fact, though she later stopped in her junior year.  She excelled in counseling, since her telepathic abilities rival and at time exceed even Betazoid abilities.  Upon graduating, she was to be posted to the USS Fredrickson, but was reassigned to the USS Columbia at the last minute when her friend Alana Kiranz was assigned there instead.  After excelling in the USS Columbia, Captain Odinsdóttir recommended her to Captain Shaughnessy on the Melbourne. After serving as the assistant ship’s counselor, she was transferred to the USS Utopia in 2368 for the ship’s launch in 2369.

Lieutenant Ja’annz has a fascination with Earth culture and humans in general. She dated a human while in the Academy, and her best friends were the children at the Terran embassy on Ottoia. She even learned Federation Standard before it was required in school.
