"Pawn to King Four"
Queen's Gambit

The latest release from Queen's Gambit goes a bit further to show why they are a favorite at so many festivals. The recording quality of this CD is much better than their last offering "Opening Move - Take Two". It seems that Queen's Gambit continues to actually use the lessons learned in prior recording sessions.

"P for Paddy" is a nice light offering, Queen's Gambit doing what they do best. A jaunty tune, this track highlights the talents of all of the members. Taking Bruce back a bit allows for the background harmonies to come forward to great effect and the added strength of Desahra and Rowan really adds quite a bit to the song.

"Blackbird" is another superior offering. Done in an unpretentious style, the music really shines through with a rich clarity that will leave many a listener humming for hours afterwards.

"Opening Move - Take Two" proved that Queen's Gambit can really tug at heartstrings when they choose to. They continue this tradition with the "Fields of Athenry". This cover is simply beautiful, and may cause one chills.

Track after track, each better than the last. There isn't a bad song choice on this CD. From Brian "Tinker" Leo's "Grania" to the "Irish Lullabye", this CD is superb. While the recording levels still seem a bit low, there is nothing wrong with encouraging people to crank the volume on this CD WAY up.

This second (or third depending on your count), recording from Queen's Gambit shows such growth that one might hardly believe that their debut album was released so recently.

"Pawn to King Four" is available for $15.00 from CD Baby.
