Images in Poetry
by John Chorazy, New Jersey Writers' Project
The use of strong image-based language is an inherent element of poetry. In this class, participants will access dreams, explore personal experience, and focus on the vivid pictures of words to create new lyric and narrative poems. A deeper understanding of "how a poem means", rather than strict interpretation, will allow each writer a safe space and prompt the creative process on equal ground for all participants.
John Chorazy, has been the editor of The Ever Dancing Muse semiannual poetry publication since 1993. He has been featured in metropolitan area venues such as Borders Books, Barnes and Noble, The Knitting Factory, Back Fence and CBGB's Gallery. He is presently a teaching artist for the New Jersey Music Society's "Literacy Through Jazz" program, and is a creative writing instructor at the Montclair Art Museum Yard School of Art.
