Images in Poetry
by John Chorazy, New Jersey Writers' Project
The use of strong image-based language is an inherent element of poetry.  In this class, participants will access dreams, explore personal experience, and focus on the vivid pictures of words to create new lyric and narrative poems.  A deeper understanding of  "how a poem means", rather than strict interpretation, will allow each writer a safe space and prompt the creative process on equal ground for all participants.

John Chorazy, has been the editor of The Ever Dancing Muse semiannual poetry publication since 1993.  He has been featured in metropolitan area venues such as Borders Books, Barnes and Noble, The Knitting Factory, Back Fence and CBGB's Gallery.  He is presently a teaching artist for the New Jersey Music Society's "Literacy Through Jazz" program, and is a creative writing instructor at the Montclair Art Museum Yard School of Art.  His "Poems for Lunch", a collection of short poems, was published in 1997 by Who's Who in Publishing.

The Changing Face of Reality: Realism in Art
by Mel Leipzig, Painter; Professor of Art
We are all familiar with art that depicts the world as we see it.  But we may not be aware of the philosophical and sociological implications of the world portrayed in a work of art and the aesthetic vision of the artist.  From ancient Greek and Renaissance artists to modern American artists, realism is never easy to categorize from the surface quality alone.  In this presentation, our eyes are opened to the world beyond the artwork.
