The Sephardic Connection
The Story of the Spanish Jews
by Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre
Bringing together the traditional dances and music of the Sephardic Jews of Spain with Israeli and Moroccan dance and music to depict their lives prior to and after their exodus from Spain in 1492, this new production celebrates the cross-cultural influences between Spain, Morocco and Israel.  To this day in Southern Spain, one can still observe the inter-relationships of Islamic, Jewish and Christian art, language, architecture and music. Accompanied by the Daughters of Sophia Tribal Dance Troupe, the Noga Group (Sephardic musicians) and cantorial singer Laurel Fecther, Alborada will take you on a fascinating journey exploring the links between the Spanish and Jewish cultures.

(This program has been made possible in part by the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, A Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.)
