The Children’s Museum of Richmond’s educational programs are designed especially for students in preschool through Grade 3. All programs are hands-on, interactive and include multiple subject areas (math, science, history, social studies, English, art). Minimum of 10 children to qualify for group rate. One adult chaperone is required for every 6 children and is admitted free (there is a charge if more than the required number of adult chaperones attend). Call (804) 474 7016.

A library tour can be set up for school-aged children to learn more about the library. Call your local librarian to set this up. Henrico County Libraries have storytimes and craft times on a regular basis. Free.

Offer presentations that include stories, beautiful slides and possibly a furry critter or two. Their educators can teach how to co-exist with the animals in your area, understand animal behavior and history and share trivia about the wildlife found in your yard. About Town Moms takes you on historical neighborhood walks, private museum tours and cultural adventures with your child. Their tours will educate you, bring variety to your week and introduce you to a great group of moms. Most tours are designed for mothers with children who still enjoy riding in a stroller.

Organic ranch located just outside of Richmond at 854 Dover Road, Manakin-Sabot. They can arrange field trips to see chickens, cows and goats, a wagon ride, and a tour of an old farm barn.

They have field trips designed for all audiences and include a visit to the County Museum, 6813 Mimms Loop Rd (Chesterfield) and Magnolia Grange. The Old Jail is currently closed for renovations and expected to open in Fall of 2008. Groups can be up to 50 at one time, and the cost per student is $2.00 with children under 6 free. Parents and chaperones are free with a school visit. Hours of operation are Tuesday-Friday, 10am-4pm and Saturday, 10am-2pm. (Closed Sunday and Monday).
