Hanover Homeschoolers Chess Club meets Wednesays from 10am to 11:30am not far from the Hanover Airport. They have chess classes, usually running in 10 week sessions.

The National Beta Club has a Christian homeschool chapter in Richmond. Since 1934, National Beta Club has recognized students who have achieved high academic scores, exhibit leadership qualities, have a strong history of community service, and who are strong in character. College scholarships, up to $15,000 are available to National Beta Club members.

Lifesmarts is an educational program that develops the consumer and marketplace skills of high school students in a fun way. It focuses on: Personal Finance, Health and Safety, Environment, Technology and Consumer Rights and Responsibilities. Participants must be at least 14 years old. Lifesmarts has two Henrico teams, composed mostly of homeschoolers. Henrico County Titans Lifesmarts were state champions in '98 and 2005 and 2006! Applications for membership are received in the spring of each year.

A homeschool Cub Scout Pack 1807 and Boy Scout Troop 1807 meet every Monday from 7-8:15pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 9600 Midlothian Tpke. If you are interested in your boys joining up, then call Jeff at (804) 323-7151.
RADIX debate club, part of Richmond Homeschool Forensics, meets every two weeks. RHF was founded in 2000 to teach communication and argumentation skills to homeschooled students in the Richmond area, with a goal of providing a means for them to compete with other homeschooled students across the state and the nation. RHF is affiliated with the National Christian Forensics and Communication Association

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet Program offers various opportunities for leadership, aerospace, and emergency services training for youth 12-18 years, and adult volunteers.
Homeschoolers make up about half of the members of the West Richmond Squadron. It meets Thursdays, 6:45-
9:15pm, Trinity United Methodist Church, Eaton Hall, 903 Forest Avenue. Contact: 1st Lt Joe Cook ph 339 4599.
The other squadrons in Richmond (The Southside Composite Squadron, Byrd Field Cadet Squadron and
Hanover County Composite Squadron) also have a high percentage of homeschoolers.

Robotics
RAPTAR (Robotics Adventure Professionals of Tidewater And Richmond) is a homeschool robotics team. It competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition, which involves building a robot using parts sent to the team by January 10. The programming and assembly is done by the team itself. Adult mentors help each team. The teams are composed of students aged 12 and up.

A homeschool Girl Scout troop meets at 1:30 pm on every other Tuesday (Nov 7, Nov 21 etc) at Fairmount United Methodist Church, 12 Bayard Rd.

A homeschool chess club is starting on Thurs, Feb 28th at 7pm at Mechanicsville Library. It will meet every Thursday evening after then. Basics and chess strategy will be taught. All ages and chess ability levels are welcome. Bring a chess set if you have one.
