RB1 & RB4 FACTS:
The RB1 unit costs more to make
and sells for more, for several reasons:
a) The RB1 uses DVD technology for the navigation disc, and only
reuires one disc, for the U.S. and Canada. The RB4 only uses CD
technology for the navigation discs, and requires two of them (East
& West).
b) The RB1 shows actual street maps while driving, as well as
directional icons, when turns are needed. The RB4 ONLY shows directional icons.
c) The RB1 is more compatible with other devices. The XM satellite
radio kit and the iPod adapter kit will ONLY work with the RB1. (they cannot
be adapted to work on the RB4).
d) The Sirius satellite radio kit works with both the RB1 & RB4
units. HOWEVER, the RB1 is the ONLY unit that will display the Song
& Artist info for Sirius (as well as XM).
NEWS FLASH!
SOME RB4 owners have stated it will display the
Song & Artist info for Sirius, IF the latest software (#05064142AA)
is installed!
HOWEVER, not
all units seem to do such. so there must be some special combination
required. IF your RB4 displays the info, please contact me, so we can
iron out the details!
e) The RB1 works with all the current CD changers . The RB4 has
problems with some of the early 4 & 6 disc changers.
f) OVERALL, I prefer the RB1,
as most others do. I sell about 3 - RB1 units, for each RB4 sold!
THE RB1 is the BEST and is a
GREAT BUY!
The ONLY advantages the RB4 unit
has over the RB1 unit:
a) The RB4 has a navigation memory, that, once the destination is
calculated and loaded, you can remove the navigation disc, and play an
audio CD. However, in either the RB1 or RB4,
you can still listen to the radio, Sirius, XM (RB1 only), or iPod
(RB1 only), OR add an external CD changer to play audio CDs.
b) The RB4 was made to begin with, to be fully compatible with the
UConnect / Bluetooth (factory or dealer option), and will display the
info on the screen.
The UConnect does work with the RB1, but will only mute the sound, when
a call comes in or is placed (nothing gets displayed).
c) Yes, the RB4 has more total audio output in watts (72 on RB4 vs. 66
of the RB1),. However, the average person cannot tell the difference in
the extra 6 watts total.
d) The most obvious advantage is price. The RB4 sells for much less
than the RB1 units. Both the RB1 & RB4 are cool units. However, if
you want the best, get the RB1!!!
e) The RB4 unit will work in Hawaii as well! (neither the RB1 or RB4
work in Alaska)
FACTS for BOTH units:
a) Neither the RB1 or RB4 will play or display DVD movies in ANY WAY.. The RB1 only uses DVD
technology for the navigation disc.
You can add the cubby hole DVD player/changer, to either the RB1 or
RB4, and have it connected to an external display.
b) Neither the RB1 or RB4 will play MP3 discs - They were not made for
such.
c) Neither the RB1 or RB4 have a touch-screen. However, their controls
are quite easy to use.
d) BOTH the RB1 & RB4
units, once installed, will auto-read the vehicle computer, and after
about 20 minutes of the vehicle running, will adjust the
SPLASH / LOGO screen, to
show which vehicle it is in (Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep).
e) The RB1 & RB4 units were made for the U.S. and Canada ONLY! They do NOT make software for these units
for Europe or any other areas!
Even though the RB4 and RB3 (European version of RB4) were made by the
same company (Becker), the RB4 will NOT
work in Europe, using RB3 software!
(BEWARE: if you try using the RB3 software in the RB4, it will LOCK it
up!) The ONLY unit of this
size that will work in Europe, is the RB3 unit, which I CANNOT get!
Can either the RB1 or RB4 units
be adapted to older or different vehicles?
1) To adapt the RB1 or RB4 to an older Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep
vehicle, that uses the older, SQUARE
edge units, you need to;
a) Use the 82207541 Adapter kit for the connections (I sell in my ebay
store). Any direct connect CD changer you may have is not usable.
Also, the steering wheel controls will NOT work, as they use a different
controller.
b) You will need to fabricate your OWN
mounting and trim, to make it fit and look good.
c) You will need to install and run a speed sensor wire from your
vehicle, and
connect it to the J1850/PCI lead, of the 22-pin connector (of the
82207541 adapter).
I do NOT have the details for such adaption to older vehicles. I know
it has been done. You can search the online vehicle forums for more
info....
2) Sorry, the RB1 and RB4 units are NOT
adaptable to other makes of vehicles.
