RER FACTS

Below is a collecton of facts about the RER units, that most people are NOT aware of!

Before you spend ANY amount of money on one of these cool units, you should be informed!

The FACTS:

I am the ONLY eBay seller, with a CUSTOM MADE adapter,  for testing both the LOW & HIGH speed units!
 (QUESTION: Unless the "other sellers" briefly install each unit into a vehicle, how could they possibly test them???)

The term "MyGig" is a generic term Chrysler marketting came up with, to denote any of their newer multimedia radio units,
  that have a built in hard drive and will play DVD movies.  MyGig does NOT mean it has navigation!
  For the U.S./Canada markets, these include the REU, RER, and REN.  For other countries, there is the
REX, RE1, REW, REP, and REZ.

The REN looks very similar to the RER, with several important differences;

A) The REN units do NOT have navigation, nor can it be added!
B) The REN units do NOT have Uconnect built-in. (works with factory/dealer Uconnect option)
C) Some REN units have SIRUS built-in, some do not, depending on what options are paid for.
D) Beware of units listed as "working great" (or similar), yet, are sold AS-IS!
VERY IMPORTANT!

1) When buying an RER unit, be SURE to buy it from a respectable seller, and that it is guaranteed to work on delivery!
Be sure to ask questions BEFORE you are committed to buying it.  This alone can clear-up most issues, one way or the other.
Also, make sure you are getting the gps antenna and user manual, for the install and usage (either from that seller or another).

2)  There is actually 6 (yes six!) different models of the RER!
Each year, 2007, 2008, and 2009, has two models; one high speed and one low speed!
The speed of the unit you buy, MUST match the speed of your vehicle!
Buy the wrong unit one from someone else, and you could be STUCK!

 
3) BEWARE of RER units being sold as "New In Box", at a rediculously low price (less than $1400).
 Chances are, it is either a pre-production model (which means all the features do not work!), OR it is STOLEN!
The DEALER cost of the RER alone, is about $1400, and normally, the ONLY way to get one cheaper, is from
an "inside job", out the back door, into someone's trunk, if you get my drift!

4) I (mr.cd1), SPECIALIZE in buying/selling MOPAR navigation & radio units!
The New in Box units I sell, are bought from Chrysler dealers.  The "pull" RER units I sell,
 are from newer vehicles that the owner chose to sell.  They either did not want the navigation,
or opted for an after-market and/or custom install.

5) The UConnect feature will now work on 2007+ Jeep Wranglers, under these conditions;
A) The RER has application software version 9.713 or newer installed. (if needed see my eBay store)
B) You add the Uconnect Mic Kit, part # 82211743 (see my eBay store).
C) In the ENGINEERING MENU (near last page), you Enable the JK HFC/VR module.

6) For safety reasons, you normally cannot watch videos on any of the MyGig radio units, while the vehicle is in motion.
  Also, in some states, it is illegal to be able to watch videos in the front, even while parked. Such vehicles from these states
 will have the watch video in park option, disabled as well.  However, for off-road use, the LockPick device allows your
 passengers  to watch video on the unit's display.  For more information, see my ebay store for the MyGig LockPick;

7) There is no bezel kit or bracket needed, to install the RER or REN in the listed vehicles.
The RER and REN are the same size as the regular factory radios. Easy swap/install.

8) The RER units have 3 different types of pre-loaded software that can be updated;
a) The Navigation software - available from NAVTEQ only (about $225).
b) The Application software (menu fuctions) - See my ebay store or local dealer.
c) The Gracenotes software (for music info) - See my ebay store or local dealer.

9) The RER units were made to work on the newer 2007 and up vehicles listed.
HOWEVER, a device called the MyGig LockPick ADAPTER is now available,
 for installing a low speed RER/REN unit,  into older vehicles,  that would normally use the
 REF, RAQ, RAK, and REC units!  See my eBay store:

10) The RER units are UConnect & Voice Command ready
To utilize the UConnect & Voice Commands, there are two ways to do such;
a) You need the factory Uconnect miror and a special jumper cable (see my eBay store).
b) Or, you can just buy the low cost UConnect Mic kit, part # 82211743 (see my eBay store).

11) All RER units have Sirius Satellite radio, built-in (works only in the U.S. and Canada)
To use the option, you need the factory, dealer, or user installed Sirius antenna, and subscribe to the service.

12) The RER has all new types of antenna and vehicle connectors on it.
There are 3 different color-keyed antenna connectors (blue for Navigation, white for AM/FM, and yellow for Sirius)
There are 3 different vehicle connectors (22-pin for speakers/amp, 10-pin for UConnect Mirror/Mic,
 and another 22-pin for the VES rear seat video, Sirius TV, and backup camera options)

13) The RER communicates with the vehicle computer.
Once installed, drive the vehicle to an open parking lot, and let the vehicle run for about 20 minutes.
 Then, turn the vehicle off for a minute.  On next start-up, the navigation position should be current,
and the splash/logo adjusted to the vehicle  (Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep).

14) The RER works with and without the factory optional premium audio systems from
Boston Accountics, Infinity, Kicker, and others.

15) If you bought an RER or REN, and wish to use it in another country, you can have it converted,
to work properly there, by this company;

18) There is now, a LOW COST iPod adapter solution, that works on 2009 and newer RER units.
Part # 82211853 (see my eBay store). It will NOT work on previous 2007 or 2008 RER units.
It will NOT work on ANY REN unit (see other adapters for the REN and other units)...
