Beginner's Class

The club holds a beginner's class several times a year on a Saturday from 9am - 1 pm.
They make two carvings, an owl and a bird. The owl carved first because it is simple
but shows the student some basic cuts that the bird does not. They are shown the
importence of sharp knives, how and when to strop, how to sharpen knives using wet
and dry 600 grit sandpaper, and are given a bench knife to use. They may purchase
the knife at our cost if they desire. A handout illustrates what our club has to offer,
other clubs in the area, when to purchase wood and tools, and instructions on how to
make a strop.

Below is an example of the bird that they carve.
