9-24
Dear Parents,

We wanted to take a minute to send a reminder about some upcoming due dates for events.

1.) On Monday, 9/27, address labels for BSS's annual Race for Education are Due.  Last year the school was able to raise $50,000 through this event.  The money was used for technology upgrades, Smart Boards and classroom resources.  To help this event be just as successful this year we need every student to participate.  Every student is asked to bring in the names and addresses of five potential sponsors.  Students will use the labels to send a personal note to each sponsor telling them about the Nov.12th race.  If the recipients are willing to sponsor they send the letter and a check back to the school.  The address are not entered into a data bank or ever used again. Families who are opposed to supplying addresses are asked to do one of two things.  One, make a flat donation in the name of the student or two bring in a letter from home explaining that they are unable to participate in this event.  Every student is required to turn in something on Monday (labels, flat donation or letter).  This will allow homerooms to win an in school movie reward.

2.)On Tuesday, 9/28, the permission slips and payment for the Renaissance Faire Field trip are due.  This will allow us to pre-purchase the tickets.  If you are having trouble making the deadline, please contact your child's homeroom teacher so that no student misses out on this fantastic opportunity.

Thank you so much for all that you do to support your children!

Sincerely,
The 7th Grade Team

6-15-10

Welcome to the 7th grade at Brandywine Spring School! This will be another exciting year and even though there are more than two months before the beginning of the next school year I am already excited. This web site will be updated throughout the summer, so keep checking in for updates on links, school supplies needed etc. Have a wonderful summer and stay safe. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to e-mail me- peter.kelly@redclay.k12.de.us

10-11 students and parents  please go to my schoolnotes page and register your e-mail to get e-mails.

Tips to start off the year:

1.   Be prepared.  Review the supply list so you have the correct materials for each class.     Please bring the supplies on the first day of school.  Remember a book for silent reading.  The following items may be brought to the Open House on August 22: disinfectant wipes, paper towels, and  tissues
2.    Practice opening your combination lock!  You will need to show your homeroom teacher that you can open your lock before attaching it to your locker.  Most of your school materials will be kept in your locker when not in use.  You will be permitted to go to your locker several times during the day for supplies.
3.     Remember to keep on reading!  Please see the  summer reading list. CLICK HERE FOR SUMMER READING LIST  Bring your two index cards summaries to your homeroom teacher on the first day of school.  Be sure to follow the directions!
4..     Dress for success.  Please be sure to consider the Red Clay Student Dress Code when shopping for back to school clothes.  Flip flops, clogs, short shorts, and revealing shirts are not permitted in school.
5. If you are planning on participating in a fall sport, physicals are due September 1st. Get your physical done in the summertime.

All rising 7th grade students must read two books this summer.  You will be tested on Sounder and required to write about a book of your choice during the first week of school in the fall.

Sounder by William H. Armstrong
Summary-   Angry and humiliated when his sharecropper father is jailed for stealing food for his family, a young black boy grows in courage and understanding by learning to read with the help of a devoted dog, Sounder.
