A perfect autumn day and I decided to waddle over to New York to take in the sights and see a show. Before getting on the ferry, we stopped at a park and took some pictures of the skyline from across the harbor. What a sight! The tallest buildings I have ever seen, and so many of them! I boarded the ferry and I was so excited knowing I would soon be in the home of Big Bird. After a short and smooth ride, I took my first steps of many ,many, many steps in the city.
First,I headed downtown and walked around Ground Zero. Then I flew over to see Lady Liberty. That's her wayyyy in the back in the picture below. I wasn't "above the line" so they wouldn't let me on the ferry, and they have a thing about letting furry things aboard. I came. I saw. I left.
From downtown dinginess to midtown magic, this was more like it! The lights, the people, stores and traffic. This is how I pictured NY. I walked the streets gazing up at the tallest buildings ever. I took in all the sounds of people talking, horns honking, and then I saw it - the big clock! I was smack in the middle of Times Square. There were screens everywhere with music videos, advertisments and movie previews. I took pictures of all three corners of Times 'Square', before wandering off to find some food. I spotted Junior's 'Most Fabulous Restaurant' and thought "Maybe I can get some quackers and cheese". After looking through the menu, I settled for a cheeseburger, which was held together with a small plastic pirate sword. Now I had some protection against the unknown dangers of the big city! I needed a drink too, so I ordered a coke and told the waiter to "Put it on my bill" (Hee hee, I quack myself up).
Next stop was the Empire State Building. I didn't go up to the observatory on the 102nd floor, but went out onto the observation deck on the 86th floor. The view was awesome, as you will see from the photo I took below.
It was nearly showtime, so I headed over to 42nd and Broadway to see Young Frankenstein. We had to wait a while before they would let us inside, but that was nothing compared to the people who didn't already have tickets. Finally, the doors opened and we got inside. Our seats were all the way up in the balcony, and the view of the stage was great. Mel Brooks, once again, did a marvellous job of making one of his own movies into a stage show - It was ducking hilarious!
We headed back to the ferry and took one last look behind. Seeing the skyline all lit up under the moonlight was a perfect end to a perfect day.
