GYM SUITS

** Students are required to wear proper Kennedy gym attire.  See "Class Rules" section on this website for details.

 FITNESS ROOM

** Students (Phys. Ed. 3) will meet in the fitness room on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Individual sheets to mark the students' progress in the fitness center will be utilized.  Those sheets will be evaluated approximately every five weeks (10 sessions), and that grade will be part of their overall grade. It will count as a grade.  Students are to complete 12 exercises every session, or 6 exercises and a cardio workout ( minimum of ten minutes ), or 25 minutes of cardio plus one exercise .  One of the exercises must be an abdominal one.  Weight, repetitions, sequences, and possibly seat position  should be listed for nautilus exercises.  Speed, time, and grade or level should be listed for the cardio machines.  The date should always be listed even if the student is unprepared for activity or on a school function. A copy of the weight training log can be found on the EXTRAS page in this web.

  SWIM REPORTS

Individuals who are excused from swim for medical reasons or  those girls who have their menstrual cycle are expected to turn in reports. Swim reports are due every Friday during the unit. They must be typed, font 12, double spaced, and references must be listed.  MDX (medically excused) students must turn in five 2 ½ page reports. Girls who are on their menstrual cycle must complete one page for every day they are on their cycle.     Students that are on their menstrual cycle will have five days of excusals. Late reports will not be accepted.  Failure to turn in reports for excusal days will result in a lower grade.

     Topics for the reports are as follows:

                Week 1- Lifesaving Techniques for the swimmer and the non-

                               swimmer 

                Week 2- CPR

                Week 3- Competitive swimming strokes

                Week 4- Non-competitive swimming strokes

                Week 5- Boating safety, pool safety, and ice rescues 

 

AMERICAN RED CROSS SWIM PROGRAM

** The American Red Cross program consists of the following skills:

                                Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5, Level 6,

 

FITNESS TESTS

 **The fitness tests that will be given are:  mile run (cardio- vascular fitness), sit and reach (flexibility), Pacer sit-ups (abdominal strength and endurance),  Pacer push-ups ( upper body muscular strength), pull-ups (triceps strength), flexed arm hang (biceps endurance), Phantom chair ( leg and hip endurance), Pacer run (cardio-vascular fitness), and long jump (power in upper legs)..  Results from the tests will be evaluated so that the students will know what aspect of their fitness needs to be improved.  Their results will be compared  and graded according to their age level.    Points will be given if the student attempts the fitness test and achieves a specified level but does not pass it. Students who do not reach the National norms should work harder in that area in order to improve their fitness level.  The tests will be  worth 10% of the grade. 

 

FINAL- Second Semester

Students will be expected to complete a thirty minute cardio run.  Students will be allowed to stop once for no more than ten seconds.  The next time the student stops or slows down so much that it is not a cardio run, their time will stop.  The entire run is worth 10% of the grade.

**This week we will be orientated to life at Kennedy High and life with Mrs. Peterman. Some of the activities will be:     

       1. Rules and regulations of Kennedy and Mrs. Peterman's class.

       2. Introduction to Physical Education 3.

       3.Fitness pre-testing.

       4. Introduction to the fitness room.

**We will be dressing for class on Thursday.  Make sure you have your gym uniform ready.

**You will be given a syllabus to keep as a reference for the class.  You will be required to turn in a contract signed by both you and your parents/guardians.  This will be due on Friday, 9-11, in order to get full credit.

**Syllabus sheets are now past due.  You are still required to turn one in.  If you have lost your copy, another one can be obtained through the "Extras" section of this website.

**We will start our first unit in the gym this week.  Make sure you have all your equipment ready.  Also, make sure that you have put your first and last name on your t-shirt in the rectangular box and your first initial and last name on the rectangular box on your shorts.

WEEK 7:

**Friday is a staff development day.  No school for students.

**We will be starting a volleyball unit.  You will be practicing with your teams on skills.

WEEK 8:

**We will be finishing our skills for our volleyball unit this week.

**Fitness pre-testing will continue.

WEEK 9:

**We will be starting a volleyball tournament this week. Teams will be playing two games per day.  Winners will receive extra credit.

**Pre-fitness testing will be completed this week.  Make-ups for the testing will take place during first period in 218.

**We are having a staff development day Friday.  No school for students.
