PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH REQUIREMENTS FOR MRS. PETERMAN’S CLASSES
GYM
1. Be on time for class. Tardiness will lower your grade
2. Dress properly for class. Required items are: Kennedy T-shirt, Kennedy
shorts, white socks, and gym shoes. Your name (first and last) should be
on both your shirt and shorts. Sweatshirts and sweatpants can only be worn
outside and they must be worn OVER your Kennedy gym uniform!
3. Rental suits are available in both gyms. An ID card and money (50 cents
in the girl’s locker room and 50 cents in the boy’s gym) is needed for
each article.
4. Students are given approximately 5 minutes to dress before the activity
and 5 or more minutes to dress at the end of the activity. Students are
expected to lock all their belongings in the locker room. Students must
remain QUIET while passing through the halls to get to the appropriate
gym.
5. At the beginning of class, the instructor will blow the whistle and the
students are expected to IMMEDIATELY get in their attendance squads.
Students should remain quiet until attendance is taken and instructions
are given for the day.
6. Students are expected to participate in the activity. If a student is ill, they
must inform the teacher prior to class. They may be excused from the
activity for that day; however, the student must still get dressed!
7. If a student is not properly dressed for activity, they will not be
allowed to participate. You will take attendance and then sit in a
designated area. All belongings should be left in the locker room.
8. A doctor’s note is required if the student has any restricted
activities. Reports (typed) will be required for missed days of activity.
9. Physical fitness tests will be given toward the end of the semester and
will be averaged into the grade.
10. The final for the first semester will consist of a 15 minute continuous
cardio run.
The final for the second semester will consist of a 30 minute cardio run.
SWIM
1. Students are expected to swim everyday.
2. If a student has a medical problem, they must have a doctor’s note. It
must be turned into the instructor prior to the unit. Written work will
then be given to the student.
3. Students must bring their own swimsuit, towel, bathing cap, lock and
soap.
4. Girls are allowed up to five excused absences for their menstrual
cycle. They will be expected to turn in a typed report for the number of
days excused.
5. Students will be allowed 7 minutes at the beginning of class and 10
minutes at the end of class to dress.
6. Showers must be taken at the beginning of class. If the showers go off
before you have used them, you will not be allowed to swim that day (the
showers are on for 5 minutes).
7. Students not swimming will sit on the benches in the pool. Shoes,
socks, books and purses should be left in the locker room. You should be
in the pool area within 3 minutes of the tardy bell. Loitering in the
locker room is not allowed (if you are in the locker room longer than the
specified time, you will need to get a tardy slip). You are expected to
pay attention to the lesson that is being taught.
8. NO SHOES (except tongs or aqua shoes) are allowed on the pool deck.
9. If you are late to class, you should enter the pool area from the hall
doors, remove your shoes before entering the deck, and proceed to the pool
benches. Tardiness will lower your grade..
10. Classes will be conducted according to the American Red Cross swimming
program.
HEALTH EDUCATION
1, Students are required to bring writing utensils, paper, health
materials,
and folders everyday.
2. Grades will be based on class work, homework, and test scores.
3. Students are required to keep a log of all their work with the grade
they received and the date the assignment was due. Along with that, they
should keep a running total so that they are constantly aware of what
their grade point average is. Your grade is based on a cumulative average.
Therefore, everything from day one to the end of the semester will be
averaged together. Make sure you keep up with your work! Your grades will
also be available on Gradebook, which can be accessed on the Kennedy
website.
4. Late work will not be accepted unless the student had an excused
absence. Exceptions to this will be at the discretion of the instructor.
5. Be on time. Tardiness will result in your grade being lowered.
MISC.
1. Food, drinks, cell phones, or gum are not allowed in the health room, locker room
area, or the gyms.
2. Permission to attend school functions must be obtained PRIOR to the
event. The function will be treated as an unexcused absence if the excusal
slip is not signed.
3. If you are injured while participating in a class activity, inform your
teacher immediately! An accident report must be filled out.
4. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain missed work or makeup
work from their teacher.
5. Ladies may leave their clothes and books in the large lockers in the
girl’s locker room during class. If you like, you may leave your gym suit
and shoes in the small lockers overnight. Do not leave your belongings in
the large lockers overnight! This will result in your lock and your
belongings being confiscated and you being charged a fifty cent fine.
6. Gentlemen may leave their belongings in the boy’s locker room during
class. Everything should be taken out after class is over. .
7. Book bags, sweaters, purses, notebooks, writing utensils, etc. should
not be brought into the gym. These items MUST be locked in your
locker. These items create a hazard to the students performing
activities in the gym areas. NO EXCEPTIONS!
8. Anything else that you are unsure of – ASK Mrs. Peterman!
GRADING PROCEDURE
A. Gym and Swim
1. For P.E.3 and Weight Training, You will receive 100 points for every day we have class. Each day counts as if it were an
assignment. Your Fitness Log Sheets will also be graded and added to your
total score.
2. For P.E. 1 & Health, each day counts as if it were an assignment.
You will receive 100 points for every day we have class. This will
be averaged with the grades you received in Health.
3. Percentages for skill tests and written tests will be based on the
number of skills tested or questions asked.
4. Absences are the same as unprepared days (no credit!).
5. “Function” absences will not count against you.
6. There are no gym make ups.
7. Extra credit will be given
periodically during the year.
8. Tardiness to the gym floor and tardiness to class will lower your grade
for the week.
9. Keep track of your grade.
B. Health Education
1.All assignments and tests will be given a number grade based on the
amount of questions asked.
2. All grades will be averaged together at the end of the marking period.
3. Extra credit can be obtained in the same fashion as gym or swim.
C. Grading Scale
A: 93-100% D:
70-77%
B: 86-92% F:
69% or lower
C: 78-85%
D. Gradebook: Grades will be available on Gradebook. You
can access this through the Kennedy website.
