Rex

A black and tan  TriColored Beagle.....

This was taken shortly after we got him on Jan  7th of 05.

How we got Rex and Rex's Story....

Rex is a rescue from the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society. I would highly suggest to anyone to check out the local rescue groups and RESCUE an animal. It is so rewarding.

Rex was turned into the shelter when he was around 4 months old. He was just too much work for his previous owner. Our guess is that the family got him because lets face it Beagle puppies are just so darn cute. When they realized that Beagles and puppies in general require a lot of time and effort they turned him in, probably after having him only a couple of weeks. The shelter which takes in any where from 50 to 75 dogs a WEEK had Rex for around 5 weeks and then put him into foster care for another 4 weeks when we came across him. I looked at his picture wanted to go and meet him. It didn't work out that way because of what else in Michigan a Snow storm hit. So the foster mom came to us. We met the same day I called on him and we got him the same day as well Jan 7th. We went to Pet Smart and got him puppy food. He and Trucker play rough but Rex plays really rough he was with a family that had 3 really big dogs- 150 lb dogs and Rex has picked up some rather bad habits we're trying to change. He barks not like a Beagle but like a big dog. We've just heard him aroo for the first time yesterday. Vet is with giving suggestions on Potty Training because Rex is still learning how to Potty Train as well as Food and Vaccinations. Rex did see the Vet on the 14th and was in need of Vaccinations as well as HeartWorm pills. We give both our dogs Heart Guard Plus even in the Winter. We have such strange winters and you never know when mosquitoes start.  Rex is sweet likes to lick you to death and is happy tempered. There is one nasty habit we have to work on ....He likes to eat pooh ...not his own just Truckers....Pretty Gross but from what we understand normal. We where going to pick up Forbid today but due to the Blizzard it just didn't happen. Maybe Mon or Tues we will go and get it. It's supposed to keep him from eating Pooh.....ok grossed yet......

He is such a sweet heart here is some cutie pie pictures of him.

He is smaller then Trucker in his height. But Rex can run almost as fast as Trucker. He is 7 months according to the Vet we saw on Jan 14th. We took Rex for an overall checkup to find out that he needed shots and he had a small spot of Mange on one of his ears. He Has a very sweet disposition and loves to lick you to death.

Taken Today 1/22/05- It's a Blizzard out there and I'll curl up anywhere I can find an open lap.....His ears we think he still has to grow into......and he has a bad habit of eating well....Trucker pooh...ewe.....

I have a ball I don't care who it belongs to just so long as I can play keep away with it......Neither of our beagles look anything really alike...but those ears, eyes and long stripes of white on their nose and tails are a dead give away they are beagles but most of all it's their nose that truly tells us they are beagles. When we saw the vet I asked if he was Beagle Dash hound maybe...He said no way this little doggie is a pure bred beagle boy just like Trucker.

Ok...at this point they been out in the snow playing and Truckers coat is off - which Rex pulled off and Rex's sweater is almost off - give him another second...LOL....Wow I don't think I ever seen two beagles enjoy foot deep snow ever before....A new thrill in our house is seeing them go.....

Not that anyone can tell but Rex is the one covered in snow....He ploughed his way through a uncharted area in the lawn to find it was taller then him...but Trucker he just keeps going....We've had to make a path around the back yard so that the humans have a path and so do the doggies but at this rate with the snow coming down faster then we can shovel it is a losing battle keeping the path clear.....

The best toy in the house is a Kong rope toy they can tug each other around with.....Best Toy EVER....

Amazing they are both sitting still chewing.....normally they fight over a bone even though we buy double.....

If you've seen Truckers page then you know we've been really bad about updating and taking tons of pictures.....so I'll post a couple of the pictures that we've taken.

I like this couch I can change the couch anyway I want them even if it's supposedly got a cover on it.....

Here's what I think of the cover......

I think it's fun to hide in and to play under and to bury in......Um bury.....

I don't particularly like it out here when mommy is not out here or when it's all wet......But I know I'm a cutie cause mom says so....

Yeah I'm laughing at them because I've been naughty and I'm going to kiss them when I get inside...guess what I've been eating.....

I know I know I'm laughing again....and she says I'm funny...must be true....

All the above pictures where taken the end of may till July 20th 05. I'm not going to go into detail about the squirrel problem, bunny issue or the robin chick that Trucker got to play with and not Rex (thank goodness) go read about them on Trucker's page. But what I'm going to say is I think Trucker and Rex get along great. Rex is not going to be Andrew's (my sons) dog but he's turned into my dog...He has attached himself to me and that's that! When he wants up he licks me, when he's hungry he licks me and when he's been eating Trucker pooh well he licks me....So I've gotten to smelling him and carrying baby wipes for that ever so lovely tongue of his. We've not had to many throw ups with this little fellow he can eat eat eat and eat and did I mention eat....so it's amazing that he's not huge and he doesn't throw up much like Trucker. He works off all he eats by running so fast it's like having little greyhounds. Good exercise and good fun! Neither of my Beagles enjoy the water but Rex has digging and bury down! We have wholes all over are back yard and this little guy has found all sorts of stuff in the lawn.......

Rex is Sick.....We check each beagles ears every week. We clean when it's needed and inspect just to make sure they don't get ear infections.... Last Tuesday I cleaned Rex's ears and got a little amount of wax out so I though I would keep an eye on him.  Well this last Tuesday he kept shaking his head trying to get the wax out but just couldn't finally when Andy got home we inspected at first Andy thought it was just dirt so we cleaned it with ear wipes (later we found out that we just where spreading the bacteria around and not really cleaning), just to find more of the icky stuff Wednesday morning. So we knew it wasn't dirt. I worked out a plan for payment because I knew it was going to be expensive....sigh....and it was.....but in the end our vet did Cytology on each ear and washed both ears just to tell me he had a pretty bad ear infection in the Left ear and although we couldn't see it yet a infection in his right ear as well. Way big sigh..... Neither dog has had ear infections something I think was impressive because Hound dogs are known for them apparently. So 2 antibiotics and one anti-inflammatory and Heartgaurd Plus 6 months for each dog and it well cost as much as a Truck payment....Way big sigh.... but in the end Rex is playing this morning and seems happier......We go back towards the end of Aug to re-evaluate his ears and get his heartworm test and his other bloodwork as well as any shots he might need. Oh and to hopefully get a solution to put in their ears to clean them properly....

Yes that's the look I give when mom and dad have to hold me just to put those icky drops in my ears- Catch me if you can..... You think your going to catch me - HA-

Thanks for reading about my boys......8.11.05
