March 04:

 Dante's Equation

Author: Jane Jensen Finished:3.4.04 Rate:6 out of 10 Date Published:Aug 2003 Where Obtained:Library Pages:484 Genre:Sci-Fi, and Mystery Did I like it?:Well Kind off. I didn't hate it but it's not my favorite of the year. Would I read this author again?: Maybe What purpose for reading this book?:Pleasure- I saw it on the shelf and wanted to read. My thoughts:It was not a great great book but it wasn't a bad book. The only thing---Spoiler--- is that the title of the book was not explained in the book. Also Kobinski who is one of 5 main characters is not a very likeable man nor is his sons story. This story is about Kabbalists and Aushewitzs (sp) and frankly at times it dealt with things that upset me and at other times kind of confused me. But I did enjoy the book and while I'd have to read about what other books this author has written I'm not sure I would read them. Frankly I'm just glad I finished this book, I'm kind of in a reading rut right now....

Eragon

Author: Christoper Paolini Finished:3.12.04 Rate:9 out 10 Date Published:2003 Where Obtained:Borders Pages:509 (including word list) Genre:Young Adult Fantasy Did I like it?:Yes, very much! Would I read this author again?: Yes probably again when the next book comes out. What purpose for reading this book?: I wanted something other than a classic to read out loud. Something that would keep attention and still be worthwhile to read. My thoughts:Excellent Reading. While the book was not perfect it was near to it. It has everything an Adult and a Young Adult would want. Adventure. The good over coming the bad. The hero wants and will get more adventure evetually....etc. I really enjoyed this book.

The Game

Author:Laurie King Finished:3.12.04 Rate:6 out of 10 Date Published:3/2/04 Where Obtained:Library Pages:368 Genre:Mystery Did I like it?:It was ok. Would I read this author again?:Yes I have only book left by this author to read and I've read everything she has to offer. What purpose for reading this book?:I like the Mary and Holmse mystery. My thoughts:While I didn't like everything about this book I didn't hate it either. I just found many discrepencies and too many useless chapters. In fact I felt some of the chapters could have been combined with others or could have been left out all together. I wanted to know really what happed to Holmse once he left Mary but you really don't get that. You only get the Mary side of the story. And again Holmse finds the good guy....I'm kinda bummed because I really wanted this book to sweep me off my feet it just didn't.....

 The Well of Lost Plots

Author: Jasper Fforde Finished:3.17.04 Rate:10 out of 10 Date Published:March 04 Where Obtained:Library Pages:373 Genre:Mystery Books Did I like it?:Yes very much Would I read this author again?: A big Yes What purpose for reading this book?:I've read the first two books in the series and had to read this book the day it came out. My thoughts: Excellent reading. Quick pace and interesting premise. Also the main character I just adore and the other characters are so very interesting. The main character has a name that I frankly love so that helps. While this book ends with cliff hangers that I wish had been resolved I know that when they finally are resolved I'll be saddened as I know the series will be over.

 The Canterbury Papers

Author: Judith Koll Healey Finished:03.23.04 Rate:8 out of 10 Date Published:2004 Where Obtained:Library Pages:353 Genre:Mystery Books with a Historical Fiction Did I like it?:I really enjoyed this book Would I read this author again?: Absolutely! My thoughts: I love books on Eleanor of Aquitaine and really anything to do with her interesting life.I came across this book on another list I'm on and thought what an interesting story line. This is the first novel by this author although she has written poetry and the like. I have to say I finished this book in about 2 days and wanted more hence only an 8 out of 10. It just felt like 353 pages wasn't enough. This really is not about Eleanor as it is about her husbands and their childrens lives. But Eleanor does make an appearance at the very end of the book even though she is very old. The author gave interesting sorrdid life of Richards almost bride Alias and her life really is the central focus until she is called to help out Eleanor- something at first she really doesn't want to do but there is a mystery to be solved as well and that really does help further the storyline emmensly. All-in-all a very good start for a new author.

Neverwhere

To the Nines

Author: Janet Evanovich Finished: 1.8.04 Rate:9 Date Published:July '03 Where Obtained:Barnes And Noble Used Book Store Pages: 312 (I'm trying to keep track of the pages I'm reading now just for fun anyone else do this...) Genre:Strong Female Protagonist (DIVA) Did I like it?:Yes.... Would I read this author again?: I love the style of this author..Carefree and Easy going. What purpose for reading this book?: I've read all the other ones in the series. My thoughts:I like the way the author has developed her characters. While I would not suggest starting the series from any place other then the first one, I think that if you where to pick up any from the series you would be comfortable to try any of the others out of order. Also I enjoy reading a book that allows me to LOL. I normally don't read those types of books so when I come across a book that does that for me I read more by that author. However notice it is not a 10 rating the only thing I wanted more of was more character developement with the main Protagonist (Steph) and Joe (her on an off again Love) and Less tension between her (Steph) and Ranger (her partner who happens to be very in- Love with her). I hate to say it but eventually all good series books must come to an end and I much rather it sooner then later to end on a good funny note (but one that I can live with).

The Bartimaeus Triology The Amulet of Samarkand

Author:Jonathan Stroud Finished:1.28.04 Rate:8 out of 10 Date Published:HC '03 Where Obtained:Library but will buy this book from bookstore it is that good Pages:462 Genre:Young Adult Fantasy Did I like it?: I like it very much as the rating shows. Would I read this author again?:Yes What purpose for reading this book?:We needed a break from Old English College Required Texts. My thoughts:We finished this book today. In fact it was so good the last 100 pages where read outloud in One day. Excellent, however this is not for the easily upset young adult. It is in many ways the same but different from the Harry Potter series. This book however was much darker and the main characters where actually pretty dark unto themselves. My son of 14 thought it was humorous and yet pretty upsetting at times. One of the main characters Nathaniel was a difficult and frankly at times mean person. While the other main character of the book Bartimaeus while mean didn't kill anyone nor was he boring. If you like Young Adult (even though this could easily be reclassified as Adult Fantasy) then this book is defintely for you.

The Lady and The Unicorn

Author: Tracey Chevalier Finished: 1.14.04 Rate: 7 out of 10 Pages:250 Date Published: Jan 4.04 Where Obtained:Library Genre:Literature Did I like it?: I guess, not really sure... Would I read this author again?:Yes I'm going to read more by this author in Fact I have The Virgin Blue and Falling Angels, I think I just want to see why people like her fiction so much. I read Girl With a Pearl Earring last year and wasn't blown away with it like others soo.... What purpose for reading this book?: I wanted to learn about the Tapestries that where the premise of the book (or so I thought). My thoughts: Honestly I think I gave it too high a rating. But I did give it a 7 out of 10 because the writing is not bad it just didn't WOW me. Chevalier is good at her Genre but would be better to leave the Male Hatred (which I think IMO comes through in her writing) out of her book. Not really sure if there was a central character but instead there where many- Which I'm not oppesed to if the author can pull it off. One of the Characters was just so horrid I just didn't like him at all. Well to those who read this and like it, good for you.

The Time Traveler's Wife

Author:Audrey Niffenegger Finished:1.26.04 Rate:2 out of 10 Date Published:'03 Where Obtained: Library Pages:519 Genre: Literature-Fiction- should have been Romance Did I like it?: No Would I read this author again?: Maybe depends on if it is another Romance and then again if the author chooses the same style probably not. What purpose for reading this book?: This book seems to be on a few best read and most people rave about how great this book was/is. My thoughts: Ok by my rating you can tell I just didn't get into this book. I'd like to know what book everyone else is reading that is sooo great because this book is not great. In fact I found that the story was one that I knew already Boy meets girl falls in love marries her and then has baby, the end. The only difference to complicate the story was the time traveling thing. I like a good piece of fiction that makes me think about life not about how quickly I want to get the book read. In fact I was looking at the Library of Congress information and it states Fiction, Time Travel etc... but no where does it state Romance. I guess it doesn't really matter I just didn't like it. I also didn't get into Henry meeting Clare when she was only 6 - kinda freakish in this day and age it just would really worry me and how easily Clare falls in love with Henry. Anyway judge for your self if this is the book for you but be warned it is a long book with the same generic story line just with that Time Travel thing thrown in.....UGH.....

February 04:

The Virgin Blue

Author:Tracy Chevalier Finished:2.8.04 Rate:5 out of 10 Date Published:1st American Printing July 03 Where Obtained:Library-Thank Goodness I didn't buy this book... Pages:302 Genre:Fiction Did I like it?: No Would I read this author again?: Since I picked up Falling Angels for a buck I probably will read it but after that probably not. I have no idea when I'll get around to reading Falling Angels. What purpose for reading this book?: Frankly everyone has said how great this author is/was. I didn't find this book fabulous. Her writing was mediocre at best. SPOILER- My thoughts: I didn't like the adulteress of a main character. I didn't like her nor did I like the other sub plot with Isabel. If truth be told I almost didn't finish this book- I wanted to hurtle the book across the room at one point. Really bad story. I just didn't like it.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Author:J. K. Rowling Finished: Rate:10 Date Published:Not sure will look it up Where Obtained:Borders Pages:This is on CD 17 CD's and the book Genre:Fantasy Young Adult Did I like it?:I like all that is written on Harry Potter Would I read this author again?:Yes What purpose for reading this book?:For Fun and also to understand some things that happened in this book I didn't understand. I listen to a chapter everyother day and pick up the book on the other days- I alternate between the two. My thoughts: A very good book and fun to reread. I'm counting this in my numbers because it was really big and I would read it again and again.
