Social Studies students should have knowledge of our world and basic understanding of the events and trends that shape our world. Students must bring at least three news articles to class each quarter. The articles must be current and must pertain to the subject being studied; a short (3-5 sentence) description must point out the connection with the current topics of study. Fifteen (15) points will be assessed each quarter to students who have met this requirement. All articles must be submitted at least one week before the end of the quarter!

Here is a little more info – the above is from the grading policy.

I will grade 3 articles for a total of 15 points possible.

It should be a current day article about a current day event or issue rather than about a historical event. It must be a news article and not an editorial, a commentary, or a human interest. News articles are reports of the facts about events without a lot of extra about why someone acted or what they will possibly do next. Those extra pieces change the article to editorial or commentary.

You need to write a brief (3-5 sentences) explaining how each article relates to something we have studied.

 •          You could use an article on the protests in Virginia over the Bad Driver fees and relate it to the Whiskey Rebellion.

You could use an article reporting a bombing in Iraq and relate it to the changing technology of the Civil War
