New Deal Network "The New Deal Network is an educational guide to the Great Depression of the 1930s. The New Deal Network is sponsored by the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute and the Institute for Learning Technologies at Teachers College/Columbia University. NDN is funded in part through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities." A resource page for teachers but which also has an archive of articles and pictures from the decade. It includes a discussion forum, photo gallery and links to other new deal related sites. The Great Depression and the New Deal A slide show consisting of multiple points of view that explains the New Deal era by displaying pictures and explaining them. This site also includes first person accounts of the New Deal. A good summary to get into the idea and methods of the New Deal. It includes several defined terms to ease reading for newcomers to the subject. It also includes a list of famous speeches made during the New Deal era and a little information on the people who made them. "The Center for New Deal Studies features resources and activities that deepen our understanding of the lives of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and of the social, economic, political, and cultural history of the New Deal era in American history. The Center sponsors a variety of educational programs, including lecture series, course offerings, and publications. In addition, the Center contains a remarkable collection of materials on the Roosevelts and the New Deal. These include books, photographs, videotapes, oral histories, manuscript collections, and thousands of pieces of ephemera of interest to Roosevelt scholars and researchers of the New Deal." A mainly member site for the Roosevelt University , however it does include some links to outside pages. The links are more focused towards the Roosevelts than they are the New Deal, but they are linking to more reliable sources than some other sites. Includes information about the different New Deal programs and their purpose. This site also outlines the successes and failures of the New Deal and includes a short biography of FDR. A very simple page that displays what the letters of the acts passed during the New Deal era stand for. Good for quick reference, but contains no real information. "One Hundred Years of Photography from the National Archives". This site provides an in-depth look at how life was portrayed during the 1920's and the Great Depression. Most of the photographs on this page contain short captions describing what is occurring and some have short interpretations of the artist's meanings. This site would be good to gain a better understanding of the public views during the Great Depression. Similar to the Acronyms page, however this site displays more detailed information such as year enacted and purpose of the act. A much better resource but requires Provides an extensive biography of FDR, the architect of the New Deal. This site contains many sub-links in the text that go to more detailed pages about certain topics. This site has a few good resources and pieces of information for researchers of the new deal. The links it includes are reliable and should provide adequate assistance to any research project. Although this site is mainly geared towards the art aspect of the new deal, at also has some good links and information about other aspects as well. The First 100 Days of the New Deal This site includes a good selection of New Deal cartoons from the first 100 days of the New Deal. The site also includes a search option for quickly looking through the archives for a specific topic or image. The cartoons display on individual pages and can be copied to a word document. The site gives political cartoons on different aspects of the New Deal and FDR. It gives cartoons of the programs and the goals and policies of the New Deal.
