 |
My child has never
played before, how can he/she play against others?
 |
What
makes this league unique, is that we attempt to match players of certain
abilities against each other. This is why the evaluation days are so
important. The league attempts to instruct players regardless of their
ability. |
|
 |
Do boys play against
girls?
 |
We attempt to have the coaches
have girls playing against girls, but sometimes there will be situations in
which girls will be matched up against boys. |
|
 |
My child is young
but I would like to play him/her in the 'A' level, can this be done?
 |
We attempt to place players in
a level in which they will be challenged, yet not overwhelmed. When in
doubt, we place players who are strong ‘B’ players in the ‘B’ division.
There are usually many players who would fall into this category, therefore
we would match them up on different teams. One rule in the league is that
an ‘A’ player can not play down on the ‘B’ team, but a ‘B’ level player can
always move up to the ‘A’ level. Therefore it is better that they play on
the ‘B’ team. If the player is so dominant on the ‘B’ team, the coach has
ability to move that player up to the ‘A’ level on a permanent basis (as
long as the ‘B’ team remains competitive). |
|
 |
Can I coach and/or
be a referee?
 |
We are always looking for
experiences coaches and referees. If you have coached teams or would like
to coach (as an assistant) please check the coaching line in the fair share
forms when signing up. If you have had experience refereeing and would like
to help ref in the league, please check on the refereeing line in the fair
share form when signing up. |
|
 |
When does the season
start/end?
 |
Practices start the week of
June 14th and June 21st. The games run for 5
weeks (1 game/week) from the weeks of June 28th – July 26th.
The playoffs begin the week of August 3rd. The playoffs are
single elimination. We attempt to complete the season by the end of the
2nd
full week in August (weather dependent). |
|
 |
Will my children be
on the same team?
 |
Yes, we will place family members on
the same team. |
|
 |
Can I request to
have my child play on the same team as a friend?
 |
We have tried in the past to
accommodate parents with this request. Due to the size of the league we can
no longer do this. |
|
 |
Can I sponsor a
team?
 |
If you
are interested in sponsoring a team and would like more information please
send email to
MSBLHOOPS@AOL.COM. |
|
 |
We are going to go
on vacation during the summer, should I sign my child up for the league?
 |
Our rule of thumb is if you
plan to miss more than 2 games and can not make practices on weekends, then
in fairness to the team and the league, we recommend not signing up for the
league. We understand that families take vacations during the summer, but
we are also looking for players who are committed to playing in the league.
|
|
 |
Our son/daughter
plays other sports (baseball, softball, football) during the summer, should we
sign up for the league?
 |
Again, our rule of thumb is if you
plan to miss more than 2 games and can not make practices on weekends, then
in fairness to the team and the league, we recommend not signing up for the
league. If your son is signing up for football, we recommend not
signing up, as the playoffs conflict with the start of football season.
We have learned in the past that football requires players to attend all
practices, therefore missing our playoffs. This would be unfair to the
league and the team. |
|
 |
Are there
refreshments available?
 |
While many players bring their
own drinks, there are drinks (Gatorade, soda, fruit drink, and water),
candy, and hot dogs for sale at the concession stand during all games. |
|
 |
What happens when it
is raining out and my son/daughter has a game?
 |
Decisions will be made by
5:00 the day of the game whether the game will be postponed or not. Coaches
will be informed and the information will be passed on to the players. The
web site will also be updated as soon as possible. Postponed
games will be played on Thursday and/or Friday nights. |
|
 |
What is
Championship night?
 |
Championship night is the
celebration of the Milford Summer Basketball League Season. All players and
their families are invited. The championship game will be played, and at
halftime of the game, there will be presentations of awards to players from
teams that have been eliminated (by the coaches of the teams). Free pizza
(2 slices) will be available to players (who wear their jerseys) throughout
the evening. In addition, ice cream will be on sale,
along with drinks, candy and hot dogs from the concession stand. Once the
championship game has ended, a ceremony will be held and trophies will be
given to both the runner-up and championship teams. |
