July
On MONDAY (July 3rd) up in Vermont, Ben Winther and Anthony/Thomas Chamberas took on the Montpelier Mile race (results pending, but Ben was 10th? and Anthony and Thomas in at sub-7.
TUESDAY (July 4th)
This trio also teamed up to run the John Carson 2-miler on Tuesday in Chelmsford. Ben ticked in at 11:38 for two miles and Anthony/Thomas in 19:35.
Doris and Dave ran just behind the Greek Streaks and finished 19:42.
Meanwhile, out in Harvard, the NETT Coyotes were out in force at the Great Harvard 4th of July 5 miler! Paul Young finished in 8th place in 29:49. John Kinnee just a bit back in 30:42.Leo Faheycontinues to see benefits of increased training, finishing in 41:46 at Harvard. And Emily Trespas was following Leo in 43:07. And our new friend Kelly Achbrenner finished in the top 100 in 40:08.
Leo says, "I tried to re-pass the 77 year old guy at the end but couldn't do it!!"
NOTE: The Harvard racers made mention of the pick-me-up they received from the De Zutter Clan out on the race course cheering them on! Great to see that kind of support out there Jer!
Also, Dave Mingori reports from Southbridge:
"I ran the Leo Lemire race in Southbridge today. 4.9'sh (measured at slightly over, but definitely short of 5). Finished 4th in 28:30 (course PR for me). Challenging course with a mostly downhill 1st mile, then very rolling/uphill from 1-3 (with one really tough hill peaking out just after mile 3)."
Did I miss anyone?
ALSO: Please give Paul Young and Emily Trespas best wishes on their wedding and honeymoon this weekend! We're all lucky and happy to have these two great folks as teammates and here's to a long and happy life together.

May
New England Track and Trail had a very strong showing at the toughest trail race in New England today, the 7 Sisters Race. Official results are not posted yet, but here are the highlights with some editorializing:
Dmitry Drozdov ran extremely well, finishing third place overall in 1:50. This makes him one of the fastest men ever on this extremelty challenging course in his first attempt at it.
Paul Young had yet another fantastic race on the Sisters course, coming at 1:58 and capturing the MASTERS win, jus a couple mins off the masters' course record. Anyone who's ever tried to keep up with Paul on this course knows he doesn't leave much out there and a 1:58 is very, very good run. And, he gets bonus points for wearing his NETT shirt and making us all proud.
Nick Cotton came out again this year and ran a very strong 2:17ish, looking strong and focused after the turnaround. It was only Nick's second time on the course and he ran smart, outrunning some longtime veterans on this course.
Dmitry Shirokov (a friend of Dmitry Drozdov's) tackled the course for the first time and had no problems finishing in 2:20 (?-official results to come). After scaling some of the highest peaks on the planet, those 1000-footers were nothing to this guy! He looked like he had just taken a stroll in the park afterwards.
Emily Trespas (soon to be Young) ran the race for the first time and did extremely well, clocking an impressive 3:08 pulling Dave Hannon along the whole way ("Would you pick it UP Hannon! Gaaawd!"). She ran smart in the beginning and tackled that second-half like a veteran, passing dozens of blown up newbies and basically skating down that last jagged hill. Nice work Emily.
Special thanks to Dave Mingori for driving, crewing, taking photos, supporting, and helping our buddy Keith O'Brien get out the woods alive after he wiped out.
It was a great day out on the trails. Considernig most of the folks had not run before, it was really impressive showing for us (we were by far the most visible team there!). Look for official results on http://www.7sisterstrailrace.com/
And in other racing news, John Kinneee ran well at the Westford Road Race, finishing in 5th place in 38:42. Nice run John--smokin' those Pumas!

March
Big Congrats to Toledo Joe Hardin. On the week he turned 40 he set a PR in the half-marathon at the Boston Run to Remember today. Joe cracked the top 100 in the race with a four-minute PR of 1:25:03! That's 6:30 pace on the nose for you keeping track at home.
Congrats to Joe for a job well done.
Also, I failed to highlight a couple fine race performances last weekend. Paul Young ran strong at the Irish Feet Are Running 5-miler in Lowell last weekend, clocking 29:28 for the distance, coming off an unpleasant stretch of typhoid fever, wasn't it Paul?
And the tag-team of Anthony and Thomas Chamberas notched up their first co-finish last weekend at the Claddagh Pub 4-miler in Lawrence. Thomas' high mileage and tempo runs paid off, as he edged out his dad finishing in 31:14. Congrats.
FILA DEAL
Our FILA sponsorship deal was finalized and a FILA day was held at the Bill Rodgers Running Center in Boston. NETT Members tried on FILA shoes and picked up a steep discount. More details on our sponsorship deal, including new singlets, to come. Stay tuned.
FEBRUARY
February kicked off with the NETT Winter Social in Auburndale. Awards were handed out food and drink were plenty and Thomas Chamberas’ pants won the fashion award!
The Russian Rocket, Dmitry Drozdov, has been tearing up the track this month, running a 4:13 mile at the BU Valentines meet and a 4:15 to win the USATF-New England mile. Dmitry’s win gave NETT five points in the meet, tying us for 7th place overall with a one-man team! Nice job Dmitry.
The NETT Boston Marathon team continues its work on the roads, with a 20-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston scheduled Feb. 26.
JANUARY
JAN 23rd 2006 UPDATE
DERRY 16 MILER RESULTS
NETT had a great showing at the Boston Prep Derry 16 miler. First off, we notched three runners in top 10. Paul Miller was 5th place overall in a blistering 1:34 (yes, that is sub-6 pace on those hills). Dave Hannon and Paul Young finished 8th and 9th place in 1:39, although Mr. Young was not in NETT uniform, so he gets penalized. (But then he got bonus points for finding everyone’s lost clothes and picking up our awards!)
Toledo Joe Hardin ran a very strong race on the hilly course, finishing in 1:54, (very close to 7 minute pace), on minimal distance training, showing he is fit for a great 2006! Cindy Winther gets the STAR of the DAY, as she ran smart and strong showing that hill training is paying off, in 2:04. She's setting up for another marathon PR at Boston this spring! Big Ben Winther ran unregistered and gets the award for the biggest discrepancy in mile splits--ever.
