Why are these pictures here? Because I am a sick, twisted individual and thought I should share my pain with the rest of the world. So what am you seeing? You should be seeing the nice 'L' shaped plate that was inserted in my ankle, plus there are eight, yes 8, screws in there. If you look really closely at the last picture, you can even see the threading on the screws. Pretty Cool! So now when I walk through airport security, I will be setting it off every time.
How did I come to need this hardware? Shawn and I flew out to San Diego to spend a President's Weekend 2002 with our friends Matt and Maria Morrison. We flew in Friday night, hit a bar. Saturday Maria showed us the sites around San Diego. We were fine up until Matt has the bright idea to take me hiking. We were going out to see this waterfall in the middle of the desert. But we had to hop a fence, and this is where things went bad. So I climb the fence, hop down off of it and land bad. Very bad. I knew right then that it was broken. We rush back to Matt's house, grab Shawn and head to Tri-City Medical Center, the closest hospital. After sitting in the for 3 hours, it was finally my turn. X-rays were taken and they confirmed the break. Not only one bone, but both in the lower leg. I got the grand prize of breaking both the tibia and fibula. They splinted me up and told me to see my own doctor when I got home. So we called the airline and booked ourselves back the next day. After seeing my own doctor, he scheduled me for surgery. Now I hate needles, but they gave me some stuff in Pre-Op that had me loving the world. I came out of surgery and had this nice big cast on, and metal in my body.
