My office is my apartment which is informal, cozy and
relaxing. Clients come here and breathe a sigh of relief to be in such a
comfortable atmosphere. My approach is gentle, laced with humor when
appropriate, never confrontational. I have great respect for anyone who
enters into the unknown world of therapy. I never give advice - what
arrogance that would be! Instead, I will guide you to your own innate
knowledge. You really know a lot of the answers you seek, you're just not in
touch with them yet. I'll help you get there.
After 15 years of doing this, I've become skilled in teaching the art of
communication so that you can learn how to reach others in a way that is
"get-able." Effective communication opens the door to solutions for
problems that previously seemed insurmountable. I will teach you how to
identify thoughts, feelings and needs which will reduce depression and anxiety,
raise self esteem and promote a feeling of confidence and well being.
This is particularly useful when doing couples therapy. Much relationship
woe comes from the inability to communicate who you are, especially when you
are angry or upset. A lot of people can't communicate their love
either. I will help you learn how to do that. The above article on
COMMUNICATION will get you started.
I'm holistic in my approach, utilizing various techniques. I prefer to not
use medication unless it's clearly necessary. My primary orientation is
the cognitive approach. In other words, we talk, emphasis on the "we."
I have infinite patience because I love doing this work which I feel is my gift
from God. Everyone has at least one gift and this is mine. Clients
call me "down to earth" and that's a great compliment. People who enter
into therapy with me almost always improve the quality of their lives and I so love
watching that transformation.
My logo is a butterfly because I think when people come into therapy, they're
like a caterpillar. They think that if they get better, they'll be a
bigger and better caterpillar, but that's not what happens. You will
metamorph into a butterfly - but - how can a caterpillar possibly imagine what
it's like to be a butterfly. You just can't. The beauty and freedom
that your life will become if therapy is successful is so sweet. Take my word
for it.
I did my graduate work at Bryn Mawr School of Social Work and Social Research. I have a professional affiliation with the PA Society of Clinical Social Workers. I have 3 children and returned to school when they were grown. I work with adults, couples and seniors, - I don't see anyone under 18 years old.
My hours are Monday through Thursday, days and evenings, Saturday only if
absolutely necessary.
A word about my fee. I charge $100 a session and if that's a burden, I'll
negotiate. You don't have to prove your income, we'll just talk.
It's rare that a mutually acceptable figure cannot be reached. I also make
it a practice to see at least one person who really and truly has no resources for a very
nominal fee if they're serious about the work. (Yes, it's work.)
My Address is 1500 Locust Street, Suite 1513, Philadelphia, Penna.,
19102.
You can always talk to me through email. Please feel free to drop me a note at
Email l or call me at 215 735 9489 and I will respond as soon as I am able.
