Let’s just acknowledge that none of us is likely to find happiness with a soul mate until we master the art of loving ourselves with great ingenuity. That’s why I’m a passionate advocate of a new sacrament: getting married to yourself. It is the initial step in creating a successful relationship with a significant other.  Your own rite of matrimony must be created.  Here’s a suggestion for the ceremony: Gaze into a mirror, look directly into your eyes and vow,

I will never forsake you,
I will always cherish you,
I will do with you what the Spring does to the cherry tree.

Oh, Isn't that gorgeous?

What does the Spring do to the cherry tree? Springtime, with the warming sun beaming down on the bare branches, not really bare but with the tiniest of fragile buds, much as you are now, delicate and tentative - the gentle rain kissing those little buds, bringing them slowly to life by softly, sweetly taking them into their full bloom.  You must bloom yourself, coax yourself into exquisite blossoms, cherish yourself constantly, giving yourself all the nourishment you need.

For those of you who are comfortable with asking God to help you with this adventure, here is a powerful prayer to support you.  Its called The Prayer Of Protection.  Use your imagination with each line.  For example, when thinking or saying the first line, "The light of God surrounds me," imagine a golden white light surrounding every external part of you as well as every internal organ, muscle, cell - you get the idea.

With the second line, "The love of God enfolds me," imagine being caressed all over with the softest bunny fur. If you’re a vegan, then imagine the bunny, alive and kicking, twitching its little nose, loving you gladly.

The third line, "The power of God protects me," suggests the golden white light coming from within, stretching out to infinity in every direction, purifying and neutralizing anything and everything in the universe that could possibly hurt you.

And I love the image of a bower of gorgeous flowers above my head at all times for the forth line, "The presence of God watches over me." God epitomized in a profusion of your favorite flowers.  Here is the prayer in its entirety:

PRAYER OF PROTECTION
by James Dillet freeman

The light of God surrounds me,
The love of God enfolds me,
The power of God protects me,
The presence of God watches over me.

Where I am,
 God is,
 And where God is,
 All is well.
