The first event was held in 2004, in response to WUSPBA membership requests for more events for solo competitors to compete at. And for the next 5 years the format stayed the same - solo piping and drumming competitions in the morning plus piping and drumming workshops with the judges in the afternoon. In 2010, due to the loss of a couple of Scottish Games in the SF Bay Area, the Mt. Tamalpais competition format was revised to included Grade 5 & Grade 4 band competitions in addition to the solo events. New for 2014, in lieu of the pipe band competitions, we are holding the Big Blow Out mini-band critique - a no-holds-barred, no-score-sheet opportunity for anyone from duets to trios to full bands. Judges will critique performances on the spot, and provide instant feedback.
