Architectural Projects

The Windhover: a studio project with Otto Poticha.

A co-housing venture on a steep city site in Eugene.

A small guest house in Eugene.

I used this project as the subject for several architecture classes:

  • Design Studio: in 1994 I designed the building in an independent studio with UO Professor Howard Davis
  • Structural Analysis: I completed the structural analysis in an independent study with UO Professor Emeritus John Briscoe
  • Working drawings and Construction: Construction began in 1994 with friends from architecture school. Work was completed in 1999 with final invaluable effort by professionals Peter Grimm and Jon Raney

Many thanks to the fun and talented construction crew assisting me in this (long) project: Cyd Coogan, Ken Weisler, Elise Hendrickson, Kevin Aires, Jon Raney, Steve and Peter Grimm. I particularly appreciate Cyd, Ken, Elise and Kevin for their unpaid efforts as we learned together. And undying gratitude to Peter for his brilliant ideas about how to solve many of the construction problems that we encountered as well as his beautiful work. Steve's door frames were gorgeous. Jon gets credit for the beautiful finish carpentry - the alternating stairs and loft rail particularly.

Photography credits go to Jared Polesky.
