EXHIBITS

The Havre De Grace Maritime Museum continues to develop a broad-based and rich interpretive program which includes temporary and permanent exhibits, educational programs, special events and guided tours.

The museum's first two exhibits, "Gone Fishing" and "Boat Building Tools and Traditions" continue to grow and change as additional interpretive materials are being added and exhibition panels modified. The "Elsie of Havre de Grace" proves to be a popular exhibit which documents the last sailing scow of the Chesapeake. The Elsie's model builders, Bill Putland and Harry Glover are still adding detail to the Elsie. The "Northern Chesapeake Star Fleet" display also continues to be of interest to the public.

New exhibits in the musuem include "Reflections in Glass" and "When High Tide & Storm Surge Meet". The first three stained glass panels, made by artist and high school teacher, Greg Lynch, show the evolution of boat building on the Chesapeake from the dugout canoe, to sailing log canoe, to bugeye. The Last panel, make by stained glass artist and former school teacher, Karen Willis is the museum's logo, which shows a gilling skiff with the Concord Point Lighthouse standing majestically on shore. "When High Tide and Storm Surge Meet: Havre de Grace Underwater",features photographs showing Isabel's watery wrath.

Presently the musuem along with several museum members are busy planning a new traveling exhibit entitled "Racing on the Susquehanna". This new exhibit will open at our Maritime Festival in June and will document the history of powerboat racing. We look forward to sharing this exciting new story with you soon.
