The big news for the year: #3 son is on the way. The boys have decided his name is Nicholas. Lissa likes Luke. We'll find out in the spring :)

Lissa is walking this weekend in the Avon Walk to benefit breast cancer research. Weather is much worse this year compared to last year - cold and rainy always makes for a fun walk.

Stefan's uncle Ruud passed away on Sunday. He will be sorely missed, but the service was beautiful. Traveling to Europe at the last minute was a challenge, but it worked out ok. Note to self: keep working on Dutch language skills.

We appear to have survived Christmas. The cards went out on the 24th, the house is a mess (but that was true before) and everyone is tired, but happy. Hope you had a wonderful holiday too!

Back from Thanksgiving at Dana's house. Always good when it's at someone else's house :) The kids have grown so much, I couldn't get past the fact that they could play now without constant supervision with just a minor risk of blood or injury...

Had a great weekend at Dewey Beach with Jay and Bonnie K., and Dana Herman, and all the kids. A packed rental house but the weather was very good (warm enough for swimming. Sort of.) Good times were had by all, and no permanent damage to kids or house.

Back to school for the guys. It's much more convenient to have them in the same Montessori school. Jorin is excited, Camber, well, less so, but once he adjusts to the new school he'll have a great time.

A long week of vacation, visiting folks in the midwest and then a weekend of game-playing in Indianapolis for GenCon. The boys did a great job on the drive out. Drive back wasn't so good, but we survived :)

House was struck by lightning last night, so we've got that goin' for us. Chimney has seen better days, and some of the electronics are now paperweights, but we escaped without fire and without anyone injured, so in the big scheme of things it could have been a lot worse...

Whirlwind roadtrip to visit cousin Kelsey for her birthday was a success, both boys did great in the car so we made very good time. They were both wiped out and slept hard on the way home.

We made it through Hurricane Isabel with no significant damage, and then survived the kid's whirlwind at cousin Lauren's party. Jorin and Camber used up so much energy they are still sleepy, two days later.

Boo-boo month. Jorin had his first cut worthy of doing something about, and Camber had a minor leg injury. On top of ear infections for both, and teething for Camber, not to mention taxes, it's been a fun month, but now that the sunshine and decent temperatures are here, everyone is perking up at last...

Lissa is back from her whirlwind visits to Tami (Colorado) and Angeli (California). Jorin and Stefan had three snow days while she was gone, but the house is largely intact so we'll call it a success.

First holiday visit of the season was great! Jorin had a blast visiting cousin Lauren, and then having Thanksgiving at cousin Kelsey's house. The drive wasn't bad this year either (except we did it on Tuesday, which I guess is cheating, a little).

One last (I hope) trip to Japan out of the way, and we've already begun the holiday-ish visitings. Aunt Dana and cousin Lauren visited today, for Camber's baptism. Jory had a great time!

Two trips to Japan for Stefan later, and we're all exhausted. Lissa survived with the two boys, despite Jorin getting pink eye last week, and everyone having a cold this week. Now it's time to get ready for the holidays, already :)

The traveling is fast and furious this fall. Lissa found out that she could in fact handle both boys on her own while Stefan was in Japan. And everybody was exhausted at the end of that trip :)

We survived our first really long road trip (9 hours driving = about 16 hours actual travel time) to Kate Lindenmeyer's wedding. Jorin seemed to have a pretty good time (he said he didn't want to go home; he wanted to go to a hotel :) and Camber seems to have forgiven us. Thanks to Molly for letting us feed the horses!

Just got back from cousin Ryan's 1st birthday party (thanks Jay & Bonnie!). We survived our first long-ish road trip, and so did the guys. Actually we had thought that it would be a tougher trip than it turned out to be; both boys were very well behaved even when tired.

Camber is here! He arrived on June 27th, weighing 7 lbs 9 oz. More details on his page. Mom and baby are doing fine, and expected to come home on Monday.

Looks like the big day is tomorrow, and it's going to be the hard way. The little guy is showing no signs of coming out on his own, so it's C-section time again. We'll let everybody know when we have real news :)

Lissa's last day at work was Friday, now all she has to do is grow the baby, but not too much, since we'd like him to come out the natural way this time :) Managed to plant the flowers in the garden yesterday, and that's probably the last yard work we'll have time to do for a couple of months...

Arrival of the new baby is fast approaching, but we're still getting in those visits. Thanks to the Thibaults for hosting the Memorial Day bbq, we had a great time! And Lissa squeezed in the trip to New Jersey for the yearly quilting get-together with Dana and friends. Now if only we could figure out how to get all those chores done...

Getting in our visiting as much as we can before Baby #2 arrives. Bill and Angeli were on vacation not too far from here, so Jorin got to have some fun (and cake, and cookies, and...) at Josh's birthday party, and Lissa got to spend some time catching up with folks she hasn't seen in a while.

Well, Stefan escaped his latest business trip to Japan, but at a big price: the first lower back problem. Yay. It's officially a "lumbar strain" but whatever you call it, it's painful. And it happened while changing the sheets on the bed. Sheesh.

We had a great weekend visiting cousin Lauren and cousin Kelsey. It's always good to visit someone else's toys :) Jory was totally exhausted when we got home on Sunday afternoon, and spent the evening snuggling with mama watching videos.

It's communicable disease season again, and the usual cold and flu is making the rounds of daycare. We just got rid of a nagging cough, only to trade it in for complete lack of energy and slight fever. The best thing is that we get it shortly after Jory gets over it, and then we can give it back to him :)

We're knee-deep in preparation for this year's twelve days of birthday (we only have one day of Christmas). Cupcakes are cooling now, ready for the party at daycare tomorrow. Then there's the family party in the evening, and the regular party-party on Saturday. Ok, so it's not twelve days, but it feels like it :)

Happy New Year! We're having a great holiday this year, and hope you are too! The house was full for Christmas, with Lissa's stepdad Greg, and Stefan's brother Jason and mom Hans here, plus a drop-in visit from Dana the day after. One unplanned gift for everyone was a cold, courtesy of somebody at Jorin's daycare, so the energy level was a bit lower than usual but still great fun!
   We didn't manage to get the letters out before Christmas--it was close, but Stefan's trip to Japan the week of the 17th sunk that hope. But they're in the mail now, and you can read it here too if you can't wait for it. The big news is that Lissa is pregnant again, due in June of this year! Jorin doesn't realize it yet, but he'll be a big brother soon...

Holiday preps are in full swing, compressed a bit due to a business trip next week (doh!). The tree came in this evening, the lights were put up a little at a time over a week or so, the interior decorations are up, and the gifts have been wrapped (well, the ones that are in the house. A certain member of the household has yet to complete his shopping, as usual). Now all we need is a house full of people again, and that should start next weekend. This is shaping up to be another great holiday, although if this bizarre warm weather keeps up we'll be having a California Christmas this year :)

There is something wrong about working outside in shorts in November. Not that I'm actually complaining, of course. We've been busy little beavers, cutting down three overgrown trees that the previous owners planted too close to the house. Jason made the mistake of stopping by to visit so we put him to work cutting too.

Ok, I admit it, I've been putting off updating the news. Lissa's mom passed away last month and I've been trying to decide how to approach that subject here, thinking it would be a challenge to mix in sad news with the otherwise lighthearted tone we've set for the past year or so. But Susan's memorial and service were filled with such laughter and remembrance of shared joy that I can't imagine a better place to put news of her passing than intermingled with comparatively trivial news of her grandson and his family. It wasn't trivial to Susan, and I think she'd consider Jorin's latest exciting adventure far more important to read about than something as simple and commonplace as her passing. She wrote about her own mortality shortly after her second bout with cancer, in 1996; words that amazed me when I read them last year, and still amaze me today. I encourage you to read them here, and be reminded that with faith and love, everything is a joy. Susan had faith and love enough for all of us, and more.

The spring is just one big blur. Too much traveling and working in too short a time. Japan for three weeks, then Lissa gone to LA, and when she comes back, it's off to Japan again. Jory will eventually realize that he does still have two parents, I hope.

Oma did a great job sewing curtains while she was here; they're half up and waiting for a trip to Home Depot to get what we forgot the first time...

The house has been cleaned a bit after typhoon Jory and hurricane Lauren finished with the opening ceremonies. Definitely a sight to remember. The winning present for Jory was the simple hand-drum with drumstick: he immediately walked off with it, banging as he went. Ba-rum-pa-pum-pum, the little drumstick boy.

Wow, so much shopping left to do, so little time. Lissa's sister and her daughter are staying with us--nothing better than a full house for the holidays! The tree and the lights are up at last, and Christmas cards went out yesterday (so they're more of a "holiday" card now, but its the spirit that counts, right?). At some point I'm sure we will be able to relax, I'm just not sure when that will be.
