The big news for the year: #3 son is on the way. The boys have decided his name is Nicholas. Lissa likes Luke. We'll find out in the spring :)December 9, 2005
First snow day of the year. The boys are very excited to have an extra "stay home day", and are ready to go sledding by 8:30.November 23, 2005
Full house, for a day. Uncle Jason is here and Aunt Dana arrives tonight. A nice early Thanksgiving to celebrate with Oma, who is leaving tomorrow.November 11, 2005
Oma is visiting for a couple of weeks. The boys are very excited to have a new audience. Much mayhem has ensued :)October 29, 2005
Zoo Boo! The boys have been looking forward to wearing their costumes at the zoo for weeks. We had a good time despite the cold and overcast weather.September 11, 2005
First family camping trip was a success! No injuries that won't heal within a week :)August 7, 2005
Back from our whirlwind visit to NJ for cousin Ryan's party. Everyone is exhausted!May 23, 2005
Jorin is cast-free! His walking cast came off today. Back to what passes for normal around here.April 30, 2005
Lissa is walking this weekend in the Avon Walk to benefit breast cancer research. Weather is much worse this year compared to last year - cold and rainy always makes for a fun walk.March 19, 2005
Jorin fell off his scooter and broke his leg. Clean break, should be fine. Life goes on, even if it is in a cast for a while :)February 28, 2005
Lissa is out of town, and the snow is falling like mad. Three snow days and one holiday in a week. Again I say, Huh?February 8, 2005
Record-setting high temperatures this week, snow a bit more than a week ago. Huh?January 22, 2005
First real snow of the season. Both boys are very excited and ready to play.January 21, 2005
Stefan's uncle Ruud passed away on Sunday. He will be sorely missed, but the service was beautiful. Traveling to Europe at the last minute was a challenge, but it worked out ok. Note to self: keep working on Dutch language skills.December 27, 2004
We appear to have survived Christmas. The cards went out on the 24th, the house is a mess (but that was true before) and everyone is tired, but happy. Hope you had a wonderful holiday too!November 27, 2004
Back from Thanksgiving at Dana's house. Always good when it's at someone else's house :) The kids have grown so much, I couldn't get past the fact that they could play now without constant supervision with just a minor risk of blood or injury...October 15, 2004
Welcome to Braeden David Boehme! Congratulations to Brock and Sasha, always good to have more little cousins running around :)October 11, 2004
Had a great weekend at Dewey Beach with Jay and Bonnie K., and Dana Herman, and all the kids. A packed rental house but the weather was very good (warm enough for swimming. Sort of.) Good times were had by all, and no permanent damage to kids or house.September 25, 2004
Whirlwind trip to NJ for cousin Lauren's birthday.September 7, 2004
Back to school for the guys. It's much more convenient to have them in the same Montessori school. Jorin is excited, Camber, well, less so, but once he adjusts to the new school he'll have a great time.August 24, 2004
A long week of vacation, visiting folks in the midwest and then a weekend of game-playing in Indianapolis for GenCon. The boys did a great job on the drive out. Drive back wasn't so good, but we survived :)July 15, 2004
Finally had time to get the chimney fixed, from the lightning strike in May. We've almost got everything back to normal, except of course the house insurance payment is higher now...July 4, 2004
Oma is here!June 20, 2004
Busy, busy travel month. Lissa to Denver, Stefan to Japan, Tami visiting last week, Aunt Jean visiting next. Wee!May 10, 2004
House was struck by lightning last night, so we've got that goin' for us. Chimney has seen better days, and some of the electronics are now paperweights, but we escaped without fire and without anyone injured, so in the big scheme of things it could have been a lot worse...April 17, 2004
Spring has sprung, and will stick now, we hope. Great day today at Great Falls park. Yard work? What yard work?February 28, 2004
Whirlwind roadtrip to visit cousin Kelsey for her birthday was a success, both boys did great in the car so we made very good time. They were both wiped out and slept hard on the way home.January 2, 2004
Happy New Year! We had a great Christmas and New Year's, hope you did too.December 21, 2003
You'd think it would be easier getting ready for Christmas when it's just us, but somehow we're even more behind than usual. At least the cards should get to most people prior to Christmas this year...November 30, 2003
Thanksgiving was wonderful this year, especially so because everyone came to visit us (no driving, woo-hoo!).October 31, 2003
Halloween has come and gone and it was a blast. Jorin has been anticipating this for weeks, and Camber likes any excuse for walking outside :)October 13, 2003
Family trip to Deep Creek Lake was a great success, seems like we all had fun despite the trauma on the kids' sleeping schedules :)September 22, 2003
We made it through Hurricane Isabel with no significant damage, and then survived the kid's whirlwind at cousin Lauren's party. Jorin and Camber used up so much energy they are still sleepy, two days later.September 15, 2003
House guests are all gone, but the house isn't really any quieter :) Big thanks to Oma and Uncle Jason for painting the kid's rooms, they look great!August 26, 2003
We seem to have survived the 24-hr blackout after a really severe thunderstorm. At least Jorin had a good time with the flashlight.August 15, 2003
Oma and Uncle Jason are visiting, and the kids are having a blast with someone other than boring old mom and dad around.July 26, 2003
Traveling is done for a while, although shift work isn't much better. But at least the world comes to visit us, next month :)July 9, 2003
Congratulations to Sue and Jeff on the birth of Kaitlynn Tyde! (it's good to see the run of congratulations continuing :)June 30, 2003
Brief break between travels, time enough to do chores, see how the boys have grown, and then head back out...June 28, 2003
Congratulations to Bonnie and Jay on the birth of Laura Jill! (it's a congratulatory month, apparently :)June 21, 2003
Congratulations to Sasha and Brock! We had a great time at the wedding!May 23, 2003
What, it's the end of May? How did that happen? At least the boo-boo rate has dropped.April 20, 2003
Boo-boo month. Jorin had his first cut worthy of doing something about, and Camber had a minor leg injury. On top of ear infections for both, and teething for Camber, not to mention taxes, it's been a fun month, but now that the sunshine and decent temperatures are here, everyone is perking up at last...March 31, 2003
It's been a busy month! We had a great time on vacation in the Florida keys, and a snowstorm two days after we got back. Sigh.March 2, 2003
The snow is finally melting a bit, but it's been an interesting couple of weeks. School was closed all week after the big storm last week. But we managed to get out of town to visit cousin Kelsey for her birthday this weekend, which was great fun!January 15, 2003
We've survived this year's twelve days of birthday, and had a great time with a full house for Jorin's party, even if he did get a stomach flu the day before...January 7, 2003
Lissa's first day back at work, and we enjoyed the extra hassle of getting two kids to the appropriate (separate) places today. We're exhausted. and not nearly ready for Jorin's birthday :)December 31, 2002
Brief pause in between the holidays and Jorin's birthday. It's been a blast so far. Jorin and Camber really enjoyed Christmas, and we got snow all day too! Jorin also likes having his Uncle Jason and Oma here too.December 21, 2002
Hans and Jason arrived safely today, and the holiday fun has begun, unfortunately Jorin has picked up a cold...December 12, 2002
Lissa is back from her whirlwind visits to Tami (Colorado) and Angeli (California). Jorin and Stefan had three snow days while she was gone, but the house is largely intact so we'll call it a success.December 2, 2002
First holiday visit of the season was great! Jorin had a blast visiting cousin Lauren, and then having Thanksgiving at cousin Kelsey's house. The drive wasn't bad this year either (except we did it on Tuesday, which I guess is cheating, a little).November 17, 2002
One last (I hope) trip to Japan out of the way, and we've already begun the holiday-ish visitings. Aunt Dana and cousin Lauren visited today, for Camber's baptism. Jory had a great time!October 25, 2002
Two trips to Japan for Stefan later, and we're all exhausted. Lissa survived with the two boys, despite Jorin getting pink eye last week, and everyone having a cold this week. Now it's time to get ready for the holidays, already :)September 30, 2002
And another trip is over, this one to cousin Lauren's 6th birthday party. We could tell Jorin was tired after this one since he actually slept in until 8 am. Wow.September 27, 2002
The traveling is fast and furious this fall. Lissa found out that she could in fact handle both boys on her own while Stefan was in Japan. And everybody was exhausted at the end of that trip :)September 17, 2002
We survived our first really long road trip (9 hours driving = about 16 hours actual travel time) to Kate Lindenmeyer's wedding. Jorin seemed to have a pretty good time (he said he didn't want to go home; he wanted to go to a hotel :) and Camber seems to have forgiven us. Thanks to Molly for letting us feed the horses!September 7, 2002
Sniffles for everyone. Jory brought something home from school last week, now all have it. Yay.August 30, 2002
More birthday parties down (August is a busy month :) but some traveling still to go. We'll be taking the road trip to Indiana in mid-September, and it should bring new meaning to "stop-and-go" :)August 9, 2002
Just got back from cousin Ryan's 1st birthday party (thanks Jay & Bonnie!). We survived our first long-ish road trip, and so did the guys. Actually we had thought that it would be a tougher trip than it turned out to be; both boys were very well behaved even when tired.July 20, 2002
We're almost in a routine, but not quite yet. Unless you count everybody being short of sleep (except Camber) as a routine :) For everyone whose birthday we didn't acknowledge in July, we apologize, and we'll get to you eventually.July 12, 2002
It's good to be home. Everybody is back, Camber is doing well, and we're trying to deal with lack of sleep :)July 7, 2002
We are now officially parents, having experienced our first midnight run to the emergency room. Mr. Camber decided he wanted to spend a little more time in the hospital...July 2, 2002
We seem to have survived our first 24 hours at home with two boys, but that's more likely due to the fact that one of them can't run around and climb things yet rather than any innate parenting skill on our part :)June 29, 2002
Camber is here! He arrived on June 27th, weighing 7 lbs 9 oz. More details on his page. Mom and baby are doing fine, and expected to come home on Monday.June 26, 2002
Looks like the big day is tomorrow, and it's going to be the hard way. The little guy is showing no signs of coming out on his own, so it's C-section time again. We'll let everybody know when we have real news :)June 16, 2002
Lissa's last day at work was Friday, now all she has to do is grow the baby, but not too much, since we'd like him to come out the natural way this time :) Managed to plant the flowers in the garden yesterday, and that's probably the last yard work we'll have time to do for a couple of months...June 4, 2002
Arrival of the new baby is fast approaching, but we're still getting in those visits. Thanks to the Thibaults for hosting the Memorial Day bbq, we had a great time! And Lissa squeezed in the trip to New Jersey for the yearly quilting get-together with Dana and friends. Now if only we could figure out how to get all those chores done...May 21, 2002
Had a fun visit with the Hockins on Sunday - Jorin enjoyed chasing JT around the zoo, with Jacob trying to keep up. That'll be us in about 2 years...May 11, 2002
Getting in our visiting as much as we can before Baby #2 arrives. Bill and Angeli were on vacation not too far from here, so Jorin got to have some fun (and cake, and cookies, and...) at Josh's birthday party, and Lissa got to spend some time catching up with folks she hasn't seen in a while.April 19, 2002
Traveling season has started - daddy is back from a week in Japan, and momma is off to the old hometown for about the same. Jory summarizes it pretty well: "Momma in airplane! See Ganpa Gegg!"March 29, 2002
Spring has officially arrived - the air is crisp, the sun is warm, and the driveway is covered in large bags of mulch. Yes, it's that time again, for the season that runs from the end of one winter to the start of the next - yard work.March 12, 2002
Well, Stefan escaped his latest business trip to Japan, but at a big price: the first lower back problem. Yay. It's officially a "lumbar strain" but whatever you call it, it's painful. And it happened while changing the sheets on the bed. Sheesh.February 25, 2002
We had a great weekend visiting cousin Lauren and cousin Kelsey. It's always good to visit someone else's toys :) Jory was totally exhausted when we got home on Sunday afternoon, and spent the evening snuggling with mama watching videos.February 3, 2002
It's communicable disease season again, and the usual cold and flu is making the rounds of daycare. We just got rid of a nagging cough, only to trade it in for complete lack of energy and slight fever. The best thing is that we get it shortly after Jory gets over it, and then we can give it back to him :)January 8, 2002
We're knee-deep in preparation for this year's twelve days of birthday (we only have one day of Christmas). Cupcakes are cooling now, ready for the party at daycare tomorrow. Then there's the family party in the evening, and the regular party-party on Saturday. Ok, so it's not twelve days, but it feels like it :)January 3, 2002
Happy New Year! We're having a great holiday this year, and hope you are too! The house was full for Christmas, with Lissa's stepdad Greg, and Stefan's brother Jason and mom Hans here, plus a drop-in visit from Dana the day after. One unplanned gift for everyone was a cold, courtesy of somebody at Jorin's daycare, so the energy level was a bit lower than usual but still great fun!
We didn't manage to get the letters out before Christmas--it was close, but Stefan's trip to Japan the week of the 17th sunk that hope. But they're in the mail now, and you can read it here too if you can't wait for it. The big news is that Lissa is pregnant again, due in June of this year! Jorin doesn't realize it yet, but he'll be a big brother soon...December 15, 2001
Holiday preps are in full swing, compressed a bit due to a business trip next week (doh!). The tree came in this evening, the lights were put up a little at a time over a week or so, the interior decorations are up, and the gifts have been wrapped (well, the ones that are in the house. A certain member of the household has yet to complete his shopping, as usual). Now all we need is a house full of people again, and that should start next weekend. This is shaping up to be another great holiday, although if this bizarre warm weather keeps up we'll be having a California Christmas this year :)December 2, 2001
We had a great Thanksgiving at Dana's house (thanks again!). It's always nice when someone else does the cooking :) Most of our news involves Jory, so it all seems to end up on his page :)November 17, 2001
The holidays sneak up on us again. This year we have a shot at getting our Christmas letter out by Christmas, but don't hold your breath :)November 4, 2001
There is something wrong about working outside in shorts in November. Not that I'm actually complaining, of course. We've been busy little beavers, cutting down three overgrown trees that the previous owners planted too close to the house. Jason made the mistake of stopping by to visit so we put him to work cutting too.October 21, 2001
Ok, I admit it, I've been putting off updating the news. Lissa's mom passed away last month and I've been trying to decide how to approach that subject here, thinking it would be a challenge to mix in sad news with the otherwise lighthearted tone we've set for the past year or so. But Susan's memorial and service were filled with such laughter and remembrance of shared joy that I can't imagine a better place to put news of her passing than intermingled with comparatively trivial news of her grandson and his family. It wasn't trivial to Susan, and I think she'd consider Jorin's latest exciting adventure far more important to read about than something as simple and commonplace as her passing. She wrote about her own mortality shortly after her second bout with cancer, in 1996; words that amazed me when I read them last year, and still amaze me today. I encourage you to read them here, and be reminded that with faith and love, everything is a joy. Susan had faith and love enough for all of us, and more.
August 8, 2001
Back from vacation, and boy are we tired! Jory did much better on the drive this year, in part because he was facing forward and could actually see what was going on :)July 19, 2001
Our first family trip to the beach today. Jory had a great time; you can read more about it on his page.June 20, 2001
The good thing about summer is that it stays light longer. The bad thing about summer is that we have lots more chores to do in the garden and lawn department!June 5, 2001
Back from visiting Dana in New Jersey. Jory had a great time playing with cousin Lauren, and Lissa enjoyed herself at the quilting get-together. Now she just has to put the quilt together :)May 27, 2001
Lissa made it back in time for Memorial Day weekend, although we've pretty much been rained out.May 20, 2001
(just an excuse for the lack of updates: more traveling. It should stop sometime around September, I think...)April 29, 2001
We've been busy traveling again. I can tell from the height of the grass that it must be spring, but I don't remember seeing the end of winter. Sigh. Looking forward to not going anywhere for a while...April 7, 2001
The spring is just one big blur. Too much traveling and working in too short a time. Japan for three weeks, then Lissa gone to LA, and when she comes back, it's off to Japan again. Jory will eventually realize that he does still have two parents, I hope.February 27, 2001
Back from our whirlwind trip to visit Granma Susan and Granpa Greg. Jory did a great job traveling, and we all had a good time visiting.January 31, 2001
The rest of the curtains are finally up and look great. Oma should be proud. Now we're busy with the next project. I think house ownership is just a scam to keep everyone off the streets :)January 17, 2001
The holidays are officially over now that our houseguests have departed. It was fun having a really full house for a while, and now we have to finish all those chores we've been putting off. Oma did a great job sewing curtains while she was here; they're half up and waiting for a trip to Home Depot to get what we forgot the first time...January 1, 2001
Happy New Year! We're looking forward to another great year watching Jory grow!December 25, 2000
The house has been cleaned a bit after typhoon Jory and hurricane Lauren finished with the opening ceremonies. Definitely a sight to remember. The winning present for Jory was the simple hand-drum with drumstick: he immediately walked off with it, banging as he went. Ba-rum-pa-pum-pum, the little drumstick boy.December 23, 2000
Santa came through the neighborhood last night, sitting on top of the volunteer fire department's truck. Sirens on and lights blazing, and lots of folk to greet him.December 22, 2000
Wow, so much shopping left to do, so little time. Lissa's sister and her daughter are staying with us--nothing better than a full house for the holidays! The tree and the lights are up at last, and Christmas cards went out yesterday (so they're more of a "holiday" card now, but its the spirit that counts, right?). At some point I'm sure we will be able to relax, I'm just not sure when that will be.December 1, 2000
Oma is here and we're all having a good time. We're behind in getting ready for the holidays, but who isn't? Road trip tomorrow to visit the old home town with Oma, then time to get busy hanging lights and writing Christmas cards.November 21, 2000
Happy almost Thanksgiving to everybody! We're getting prepared for a vist from "Oma" (that's Dutch for Grandma). She's currently stuck in Orlando courtesy of a canceled flight, and trying to get on standby for the evening flight...
