Fully Disassemble Your PS3

WARNING: I, nor PS3-Hacks.com can or will accept any Responsibility what so every for what happens to your PS3 you open it at your own risk. Note that to make sure you have at least a couple of hours to do this in and that the room you do it in has proper lighting. Also Note That the Power Lead must be out at all times as and by opening your PS3 you void your warranty.

Intro: This guide will completely explain how to disassemble your ps3.

Equipment needed:
- Torx screwdriver set
- Phillips head screw driver
- Small flathead screw driver (for removing the rubber foot)
- Somewhere with plenty of space that is well lit and that wont build up static electricity. (Mainly  anywhere but carpet)

The Guide

1. Below is a picture of a assemble PS3 all ready to be taken apart.

Removing Hard Drive

1. To remove the hard drive start by locating the left side of the PS3 and find the cover with a HDD sticker as shown in the picture below.

2. After you have located the hard drive cover grab a flathead screw driver and Use your flathead screwdriver to pop off the plastic cover.

3. Once the cover has been removed use a Phillips head screw driver to remove the blue screw point to in the picture below with a red arrow.

4. Once you have removed the blue screw lift the metal handle and slide it to the right in till it like the picture below.

5. Finally to remove the hard drive just lift it out useing the metal handle. Once remove it will look like the picture below.

Removing Cover

1. Turn the console to the left so that the rubber foot that is circled in red in the picture below can been seen. Use a small flathead screw driver to remove the rubber foot off. Now that the foot is removed used the Torx screwdriver to unscrew the screw.

2. Once the Screw has been removed it should look like the picture below.

3. Now face the ps3 towards you and slide the top of the ps3 to the left this may take some force if it your first time opening the console. When the case have slided as far left as it will go lift the case upwards as shown in the picture below.

4. After the top is removed you will be faced with yet another cover to remove this cover start by removing the 7 long screw circled in red in the picture below using a Phillips head screw driver.

5. Now undo the two small clips at the back of the console using a small screw driver then lift the cover off the console as shown in the picture below this may take a bit of gentle force.

6. While taking the cover off you will see a connector as shown in the picture below.

To remove the silver connector use a Small flathead screw driver as shown in the picture below to help you wedge it out.

7. You will now be able to see the ps3 insides as shown in the picture below.

Removing Power supply

1. Now to remove the power supply you will need to unscrew the five screws circled in red as shown in the picture below.

After all screws have been removed. Remove the connector that is being pointed to in the picture below by pulling it out.

Then disconnected the wire that plug into the back of the power supply as shown in the picture below.

Now just lifted the power supply to remove it.

Removing Bluetooth board (60GB models only)

1. To start remove the connector in the middle of the Bluetooth board as shown in the picture below by pulling it.

2. To remove the Bluetooth board just unscrew the 4 screws circled in the picture below then disconnected the ribbon cable by pulling the brown flap up.

Removing Blue Ray drive

1. You will now did to remove the blue ray drive by disconnecting the wire circled in the picture below by giving it a gentle pull.

2. Once the connector has been removed lift the drive up carefully in till you can see the silver cable as shown in the picture below.

Turn the blue ray drive a little and located the connector that is being pointed to in the picture below.

To remove the silver cable pull at the connector as shown in the picture below.

Remove little circuit board

1. Find the circuit board that is being pointed to in the picture below.

2. Two remove the little circuit board just unscrew the screw that being pointed to in the picture below  and lift it up to remove it.

Your ps3 should now look smiler to the picture below.

Removing On and off switch

1. To remove the On and off switch unscrew the 4 screws circled in the picture below then disconnected the ribbon cable mark in the picture also.

2. Lift to removed On and off switch.

Removing Motherboard

1. To remove the motherboard unscrew the screws circled in red in the picture below.

2. Before lifting out the motherboard check that the you have taken out the plastic cover with the HDD sticker on it!. As if it not removed clips will get bent.

3. Now that you have checked that the hard drive cover has been removed you can now gently lift it up as shown in the picture below.

Removing plastic back panel

1. Locate the plastic back panel as shown in the picture below.

2. To remove the plastic back panel you need to lift 4 small plastic clips (2 on both sides of the motherboard)

3. Once the clips have been lifted you can lift the back panel off.

Removing Fan

1. First located the fan

2, Once you have located the fan find the connected as shown in the picture below and remove as shown in the same picture.

3. After you have removed the connector in stage 2 locate and find the second connector as shown in the picture below and lift it to remove it.

4. Now that you have removed the twp connection you can now remove the 3 screws circled in red as shown in the picture below.

5. Now that you have removed the 3 screws you can now lift the fan upwards as shown in the picture below.

6. Put fan to the side and Flip motherboard back over.

Removing metal brackets

1. To remove the metal brackets Unscrew the 4 screws circled in red as shown in the picture below.

2. Onces the metal brackets have been removed the ps3 should look like the picture below.

3. Flip motherboard over again.

Removing Heat sink

1. To remove the heat sink you will have to use some gentle force as shown in the picture below be carefully as it is stuck down to the CPU and GPU with white thermal paste.

2. After the heat sink is removed it will look like the picture below. Note that the white thermal paste can not be touch or eaten. Do not clean the stuff off ever as you will have to use it again when you reassemble the PS3.

Removing metal shielding

1. Now that the heat heat is off you can remove the metal shielding by lifting it up very gentle (Metal is very thin and easy to bend) as shown in the picture below . Also note that if it does get bent it could cause the shielding to short out something on the motherboard when the PS3 is reassembled.

2. Now flip the motherboard over and remove the metal shielding on that side to.

Naked Motherboard

3. Congrats you have now completely disassembled your ps3 .
