It's Raining Pigs and Noodles
By Jack Prelutsky
Illustrated by James Stevenson
Think About This
Did you ever lie down on the ground and look up at the clouds? Sometimes you see funny animals and sometimes funny people. Poetry is like that: it is a creative way of expressing your ideas. Poetry can make you laugh and cry. It can tell how you feel about yourself and the world around you or relate a story about a special time.
It's Raining Pigs and Noodles is an example of poetry that makes you laugh. Jack Prelutsky has taken every day events and situations and told us a small story in rhyming upbeat verse.

About the Author
The author of poetry has a very special name. He or she is called a poet. The poet Jack Prelutsky was born on September 8, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Prelutsky did not start out to be a poet. He thought poetry was boring. He tried many different occupations and then decided he wanted to be an artist. He drew some pictures and wrote a poem to go with each one. His publisher didn't like the pictures but loved the poems and so, a star was born. He has been writing fun, interesting poems for children ever since that day.
