Hi! My name is Eleanor Aquitaine, but you can call me Ellie.  I am a border terrier. My breed comes from the border of England and Scotland.  Border terriers are used in fox hunting in England.

The Bloom family wanted to name me for a famous English woman.  They decided to name me after Eleanor of Aquitaine.  Eleanor of Aquitaine was born in 1122.  She was married to the King of France, Louis VII when she was fifteen.  They had two daughters but were not very happy together.  In 1152, they divorced and within a few months she married Henry Plantagenet who would become Henry II, King of England.  So Eleanor was both the Queen of France and then the Queen of England.  She had several children with Henry including Richard the Lionhearted, whose realm, according to legend, was protected by Robin Hood while Richard was away during the Crusades.  To read more about Eleanor, try this website http://www.womeninworldhistory.com/heroine2.html , look her up in the encyclopedia, or read the Royal Diaries series book on Eleanor of Aquitaine for a fictional account of her life. This is Ellie's friend, Morty.  Morty is an English Bulldog and is owned by Mrs. Stewart.

           My Summer Vacation

By

Eleanor “Ellie” Bloom

Dear Boys and Girls at North Beverly School,

I hope you had a great summer vacation.  I did too.  This story is all about my vacation.

     This summer I played ball.

I also went away  overnight to see my Papa and Grandma.  They live 6 hours away.  It was a long car ride but it was worth it.  Papa played ball with me.  Grandma and my Mom took a walk with me.  There was lots to do.  I smelled the flowers.  These are some pictures of me and the flowers.

I saw pretty water fountains.

I even got to go to the beach.  I liked the sand and shells.  There were a lot of things to sniff.  I didn’t like the waves.

I slept in the car most of the way home.  I was glad to see my own yard.  Now I can sit on the stairs and watch everyone in the kitchen.

Your friend,

     Ellie

Have a great 2006!

Love,

Ellie and Morty
