CRASH

MASHPEE
– A 7-year old boy on the way to play a baseball game was killed in a horrible
crash on Route 130 in Mashpee Saturday morning. According to the Cape Cod Times
a van driven by Remy Rodriguez 27 of Hyannis was traveling north on Route 130
behind a BMW driven by 39-year old Joseph Carig of
Forestdale. Carig was waiting to make a left turn
onto the Herring Run. Police believe Rodriguez didn’t see the BMW stop until it
was too late. He clipped the BMW and swerved into oncoming traffic colliding
head-on into a pickup truck operated by 36-year old Douglas Murphy of
Forestdale. Rodriguez’s van then flipped onto its roof. Remy’s son Michael had
to be cut free and was flown to Children’s Hospital in Boston where he later died. The impact sent
Murphy’s truck into a bridge. Seven people including Remy Rodriguez, Murphy and
two children in his vehicle were all taken to area hospitals for treatment. Carig and a passenger in his vehicle escaped serious
injury. Mashpee Police continue to investigate the crash.

Multi vehicle crash kills one, injures
two

A woman
driving this Chevy Tracker was killed in a crash on Route 130 Monday
SANDWICH - A multi vehicle crash on Route 130
in Sandwich killed one person and injured two others. The crash happened about
11:45 AM near the Dunkin' Donuts and the old Cemetery. One person had to be
extricated from the wreckage. A Medflight was
requested to the Forestdale
School for that
individual but was later cancelled. That victim was rushed to a local hospital
and was pronounced dead. Ambulances from Sandwich, Mashpee and West Barnstable helped transport victims to area
hospitals. Sandwich Police are investigating this latest in a long series of
major crashes on Route 130. Reports say a
woman driving a Chevy Tracker may have been waiting to make a left turn when
she was hit from behind by a car. The impact then apparently thrust the Tracker
into the path of this NStar pickup truck (right)
Traffic on Route 130 was being rerouted around Cotuit Road causing heavy delays in
the area for some time after the crash. Later Monday evening around 8 PM
rescuers were called to another collision in Sandwich
where a car had crashed into the woods. The driver suffered serious but non
life-threatening injuries and was taken to CCH.
