The 8988 is a 5000 watt tetrode designed by Burle for use in UHF-TV applications up to 400 MHz. This tube was used as a visual power driver amplifier in a Harris TV50H transmitter at KOVR channel 13 in Sacramento. RCA's versions had both purple and white ceramic.
